VHS tape to computer

As anyone managed to transfer their old VHS tapes to their Laptop.
I've been thinking about this for sometime as I don't want to loose these old memories of when the children were small some of our holidays, birthdays and Christmas etc.

You tube explained how to do this and it seems I just require something called a video capture adaptor.

Thing is I'm not sure what to purchase, don't want to get the wrong thing.

Any advice would be welcome.

I was wondering about having a VHS film of DD’s wedding put onto a DVD.

Asda, Tesco and Boots all do a video to dvd transfer service. There are also several online transfer services to try. My DH had ours done at Tesco, it was done in two or three days and at the time they had a two for one offer on.

DH ordered leads (Not sure technical name just typed in VCR leads to laptop) from Amazon.
We do still have an old VCR.
He connected the VCR to the lap top via the leads.

DIY Method although quite a long task allows for editing.
We also had a boxful of videos of our children growing up and also family wedding videos which would probably have worked quite expensive

Should add DH downloaded the films on to USB sticks. (Fit into our TV).
But could easily be put on to DVD disks

Didn't know the supermarkets did the transfers, we've a few I'd like to keep in dvd form. Although I'm not so sure the 'children' will be pleased grin

Thanks everyone

I am now copying VHS to computer via a video capture device which I have on loan.
It does take time because I have several tapes and there are different recording on each tape.
I am using Power Director to do this and I save each section to a different file.
It is a long process because I have to have the tape playing in real time but I am so glad I am managing to save these precious memories.
