Linking phone with new laptop

If he logs in to facebook. Are his contacts not there?

Ditto his email account if he has his usernames and passwords to hand.

No he can't log on at all so made himself a new account. ditto his email account and none of his contacts are visible. He possibly had had to change all his passwords.

A local guy set up his new laptop and moved his files etc over but perhaps didn't explain properly how he could access everything. DH doesn't think this man is very bright so won't ask him back.

I just think he should be getting far more from both devices than he currently does and is too stubborn to ask for help.

His iPhone should be backed up to iCloud. There are a number of ways to retrieve all of your contacts from your iCloud email address.
If he has used his iPhone properly and backed up his contacts and he has an iTunes account he should be able to plug his phone into his laptop go onto his iTunes account and all the contacts will be there they can then be downloaded onto his phone.

I assume he has MAIL on his iphone
If he does - go into SETTINGS - there he will see MAIL

Open up MAIL - you will see ACCOUNTS at the top.
Open up ACCOUNTS - he needs to have his emails accounts in there -see my 2nd screenshot - I have various emails (see top).
If he doesn't, he needs up open up ACCOUNTS and use Add Account

If not - touch ADD ACCOUNT and put in all info asked for.
