Hello, although I'm not new on here this is my first actual post. I'm looking to take my DH away for his 60th and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good country house or hotel? Preferably with either a restaurant attached or good restaurants really close by. A fireplace (it'll be end of Nov), in the countryside, walks nearby. That sort of thing? And while we're at it if you could recommend gifts too that would be brilliant! Man has everything...

My DH and I stayed at the Redworth Hall Hotel near Newton Aycliffe in County Durham a couple of years ago to celebrate a significant anniversary. It was lovely. Beautiful room, gorgeous food too. It is a seventeenth century manor house set in its own grounds. We have also stayed at the Sprowston Manor Hotel, near Norwich. This is a Marriott Hotel and I can highly recommend both of them. As for walks and things to do, we were a both of these in the winter time. Sprowston Manor is near to
Thursford, home to the largest collection of steam traction engines and organs in the world. We went to the Christmas Spectacular and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. I hope you find something soon, and yourcDH has a superb birthday.

Me again, I'm sorry I can't do a link, but Google Thursford Christmas Spectacular and it gives you all the info. The shows start on 11th Nov. I think.

It might help if you had an idea of the area you wanted to go. Could recommend a number of places but would like to know where exactly you were willing to travel.
