Not so dramatic coming at it from the side is approaching the crossroads from the side street.

Crossing roads in Iceland is most unlike crossing in the UK - if you are standing waiting for a gap in the traffic, not even at an official crossing place, the cars actually stop and wave you over in front of them! Could be because 30% of the country's income is from tourism, so everyone goes to a lot of trouble to look after visitors.

DD has just got back from Iceland and was amazed at the way cars just stopped for them to cross. Trouble is I'd have trouble walking over it and if driving there[which would never happen anyway] my brain probably wouldn't let me drive over it.
