Does anyone have a recommendation for accommodation in Bury St Edmunds? We are planning a visit there with friends in early summer. Somewhere fairy central would be ideal. We had a short stop there en route to another destination a few months ago and it looked a lovely town.

The Angel. Smack bang in the centre. Not sure if they have a car park though.

It is a very pretty town. Market twice a week. A town for older people.

Oh, also, The Chantry. Not as nice as The Angel, but good.

There is also a premier inn which would be more cost effective than one of the other hotels.

Try Tripadvisor........they publish reviews regardless of how candid they are.

The Angel hotel has a car park but there is also a paid car park in front of the hotel on Angel Hill which fronts the hotel. Enjoy the town lots to see and do .

The Angel does have a car park. They often have offers so I suggest you have a look and see if any suit you. I know young people who love Bury!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had looked at TripAdvisor which is often useful but thought that GNetters might have a more personal point of view. The Angel caught our eye on our brief stop there before. It's a bit pricey but a brilliant location so will look out for the offers.

The people of Bury (as we used to call it - I grew up near Newmarket) are lovely. The Abbey gardens will be wonderful if you are going when the spring flowers are in bloom. The gardens are so relaxing.

Historically, it is quite an amazing place. Read up about it or try a walking tour.

I used to stay at the Angel many years ago and liked it and it's central. I recall it had a car park.

Market days in Bury St Edmunds are Wednesday and Friday and a Farmer’s Market first Sunday in each month.

We’ve stayed at the Premier Inn in Bury a couple of times. It’s central and has a large car park behind it, which is free for hotel guests. Perfectly acceptable.
