Who should replace Susanna Reid?

Having read that Susanna Reid is to be offered £1m p.a. to join ITV on their morning programme, DH and I were watching Naga Munchetty (sp??) and decided that we hoped she wouldn't be her replacement!

I've posted before about one of the things we enjoy about being semi-retired is the nice slow start in the mornings, watching Breakfast with a few cups of tea.

We were sorry to lose Sian Lloyd and didn't really like Susanna but prefer her to Naga.

Who would you like to see first thing in the morning? Assuming that's how you start your days?

I prefer silence, no TV or radio, just a cuppa and my own thoughts...

Never heard of Naga Munchetty - what sort of name is that? I'm off to google her...

The Naga bit is right at least! I would like the job myself as I think it would pay a bob or two.smile I did like Susanna, thought she was just right.
Don't really mind though.

Well, now I know ... you got her name right, Kittylester. Apparently she annoys a lot of people...

Local radio for me all day - don't switch on TV until the evening news

Mishap Thu 20-Feb-14 14:39:39

Who IS Susannah Reid?!

Charleygirl Thu 20-Feb-14 14:41:48

I have never had a problem with Naga Munchetty who normally works on a Sunday morning. She is bright and articulate.

kittylester Thu 20-Feb-14 14:49:59

blush - sorry I should have said Sian Williams, not Lloyd!!

Naga does the 'Business' some mornings, before Breakfast starts, as well as standing in during the week. I find her a bit strident!

philly Thu 20-Feb-14 14:57:03

Naga Munchetty drives DH and I insane. Her voice is very loud, she talks over her fellow presenters and guests and has an opinion about everything. I read about someone saying 'she should realise this is not the Naga Munchetty Show' the sooner the BBC get rid of her the better.

Radio 4 for me - mind you John can be a bit strident at times!

Anne58 Thu 20-Feb-14 15:04:12

Radio 4 here too! yes, nothing like a good shout at John "Grumphrys" to start the day!

And now Michel Hussein has joined the Today team it is no longer so male dominated and a bit less hysterical in tone. grin (a little less of hyper-Humphreys is a blessing I find. And he is particularly dire if asked to interview an ordinary person who he cannot just attack.) The BBC Trust have made themselves useful and told BBC managers to stop being so sexist in their choice of programme presenters, experts invited to speak on important topics etc etc.
(they do sometimes scrape the bottom of the barrel when trying to present issues in a "balanced" way though - Nigel Lawson, expert on climate change hmm )

We don't watch telly until Homes Under The Hammer while we're having a cuppa. We wouldn't get any work done if we did!

Anne58 Thu 20-Feb-14 15:57:28

The only room in the house with a tv is the sitting room, and we don't even go through until 6.30pm at the earliest. (More likely to be 7.15pm for me, after I've listened to the Archers)

On the subject of interview technique, I do admire Eddie Mair, he has a lovely way with "ordinary" people, but can be very tenacious without being over aggressive with politicians and such.

Ariadne Thu 20-Feb-14 16:11:50

I quite like Louise Minchin, but agree with comments about Naga.

petra Thu 20-Feb-14 16:42:36

Don't you feel better when other people feel the same about certain presenters. I dislike this woman soooo much that I'm thinking of watching Sky news. I never thought that would be a sentence I would write.
Has anyone noticed that Bill and Charly don't like her. It comes across as plain as the nose on your face.

Anne58 Thu 20-Feb-14 16:44:00

Errrm, I'm currently available.

Agus Thu 20-Feb-14 17:03:09

I was just wondering where Susanna Reid's mother has gone. Haven't heard from her since Strictly finished.

Anne58 Thu 20-Feb-14 17:06:36

As I believe I posted before, perhaps she feels her work here is done?

Gally Thu 20-Feb-14 17:17:54

Phoenix grin. I had been wondering about Grandmaminey too - probably true!
The morning 'News' programmes are just inflated Magazine type programmes full of Celeb rubbish and interspersed with a little news here and there. I like to know what's going on in the world, hear some proper news and a few hearty discussions. I don't want to watch Bill Wotshisname , Louise Minnikin or whatever she's called, and Susannah Reid sitting on the sofa mumbling, giggling and carrying on in an infantile way. I'm beginning to think the One Show in the evening, which I have only watched a few times, is more grown up than Breakfast and that's saying something shock.

kittylester Thu 20-Feb-14 17:20:01

phoenix grin - it definitely is!

I agree petra and this morning Dh announced that Steph 'obviously doesn't like her either!'

I didn't like Charlie when he first started but I do now.

But, who should replace Susanna if not, hopefully, Naga?

merlotgran Thu 20-Feb-14 17:21:00

Yes. Some of us jumped on jingl over a comment she made about Grandmaminey but I think she was spot on.

durhamjen Thu 20-Feb-14 17:21:46

I am sure I remember Susanna Reid saying that she would not leave the BBC. A million pounds is obviously a big incentive.

Gally Thu 20-Feb-14 17:31:05

How about Steph taking over then? She's a down to earth girl and, as yet, is not over inflated in the 'Am I not wonderful' department.

Agus Thu 20-Feb-14 18:11:37

To me it was plain as day why Grandmaminey was posting! She was using GN to get votes.
