It didn't take Whittingdale long did it?

Blimey! One week that must be a record!

He is now trying -or so the media is reporting- to stop the BBC from showing their most popular programmes at peak times.

Hell hath no fury etc.

Me thinks another petition will gather pace.

Silly man and poor judgement, although one can expect nothing less from this government.

The BBC ain't broke but the current government seem to be on a mission to damage it. Sticking up for the commercial channels - its not fair if the BBc complete on a Saturday night. Completely pathetic.

Explains why the Beeb has become so right wing

POGS Sun 01-May-16 10:29:56

grin. Right Wing.

Anniebach Sun 01-May-16 10:41:04

Yes POGS,

I definitely dont think that the BBC has become right wing.

Not sure why the BBC shouldnt compete on a saturday night.

Jane10 Sun 01-May-16 15:24:02

Right wing think the BBC is too left wing and the left wing thinks its too right wing. That must mean they've got it about plumb centre!

I have always understood that the BBC
and the commercial companies were
designed to be in healthy competition with each other.

The right wing mantra has
always been, "Let the Market decide."
We, the public, have the choice of watching
whichever offering appeals to us.
I have a strong preference for viewing
TV without commercials, so I watch BBC and, thanks to modern advances, I simply record commercial programs, and skip the ads.
It seems that Mr Whittingdale isn't prepared to listen to the Market when
it is telling him something he doesn't
want to hear.

kittylester Sun 01-May-16 19:17:57

exactly what obieone said. And i pay my licence fee to watch good/popular programmes at popular times.

whitewave Sun 01-May-16 20:23:00

So what will we have in their place?

Parliament today?

All ITVs got to do is put their programme -any programme on peak times and then claim immunity from the BBC. What a load of rubbish.

Anniebach Sun 01-May-16 20:39:51

Seems the Beeb is affecting ITV's takings , what about the licence payers Whittingdale

Deedaa Sun 01-May-16 21:52:50

There's no thought of the viewers here at all is there? No Strictly on Saturday nights and no Poldark on Sunday nights would leave me with nothing for the weekend because there's very little I watch on the other channels. But that's the Government all over isn't it? They don't listen to us about the NHS, they don't listen to us about schools, why bother to listen about the BBC?

Ana Sun 01-May-16 21:53:01

If we're talking about Saturday night programmes, ITV regularly gets far more viewers than the BBC.

rosesarered Sun 01-May-16 21:56:54

We record most programmes anyway, so the timing hardly matters.

whitewave Sun 01-May-16 22:33:57

Exactly -which just shows what an idiot he is.Coffee anyone?grin

Anya Mon 02-May-16 08:21:11

Jane 10 sounds about right to me!

Anniebach Mon 02-May-16 08:26:29

Seems the loss to ITV is 1% .

Alea Mon 02-May-16 08:44:19

or so the media is (are?) reporting

Is this another press exaggeration? A good headline? "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"?

Anniebach Mon 02-May-16 08:49:41

Quite possibly Alea
