Did anyone else watch this programme about Raine Spencer?
I was prepared to dislike her after the years of bad press, but actually I found her highly entertaining, positive, hard working, kind and loyal. I loved her mad hairdos and froufrou clothes. Obviously inherited her style from her mother.
She was treated appallingly by the disturbed unhappy Spencer children, although I agree with them that she shouldn't have sold or "refurbished" family heirlooms. However, without her their father would probably not have survived his stroke.
She was a strong character who managed to rise above all that and even became a good friend to Diana in later years.
Diana introduced her to Mohammed al Fiad who gave her an executive position at Harrods and she promptly went onto the sales floor and started working alongside the other staff.
I ended up having respect and affection for her.

And pushed down the stairs by a jealous Diana at her brother's wedding.

Nice!

The Spencer family were seriously dysfunctional. The brother who spoke out at Diana's funeral, criticising the royals, was the same brother who refused to let Diana come home when her marriage collapsed, but was subsequently quite happy for her body to come home and to reap the takings from people visiting the place. Two of his wives ended up with serious mental breakdowns. We all know the terrible story of Diana's mother having the affair, going to Argentina with Barrantes, and her own Mother siding with Earl Spencer to get custody of the children. If they were further down the social scale they would likely have been referred to Social Services. I am not a great Diana fan, and don't worship her as some do, but I always felt sorry for the girl, poorly (but expensively) educated and just used by the Spencers and the Royals as a brood mare. Poor Raine, what a family of step children to marry into!

It was Sarah Ferguson's mother who 'bolted' with Hector Barrantes.
