I watched GW last Friday, 24th, hoping to see the bit about Adam Frost, putting the finishing touches to a Leicestershire garden. Did I miss it, or was that omitted? I don't think I fell asleep. confused

I didn’t see it in the programme either.

It definitely wasn't there. I usually look at the Radio Times online site to see what's going to be featured but I don't think it's always reliable.

I also don't understand why it has Adam Frost in the main picture every week instead of Monty Don.

If I remember rightly I think the beginner's garden in Leics was on the previous week. Whether it was the final visit I couldn't say.

I’m not keen on the Adam Frost features but I could watch and listen to Monty all day . It must be nice getting a huge garden done courtesy of the BBC though . hmm

merlotgran Sun 26-Aug-18 18:23:02

I guess he does need a bit of help, gilly grin

Thanks Ilovebeigecardigans, I'll have a look on catch .

I've been wondering whether Adam Frost is scheduled to take over from Monty Don. I seem to remember that there was some talk early in the year that Monty was possibly going to be retiring from Gardeners World. I must say that I'd be unlikely to continue watching it if that turns out to be the case.

We've been taking bets on Adam Frost as well. Large house and Garden in Lincolnshire would fit the bill.
I do hope not.

Ilovebeigecardigans, I tried catch up, but the programme for the week before was all about Persian/Islamic/ Eastern gardens. Unless I got that wrong as well confused

gillybob you mean to say he doesn't do it all himself?
shock

The blurb on last Thursday's GW said that Monty would be asking for advice on installing a water feature in his Paradise Garden. I don't remember this bit. Did I nod off?

Also....What has happened to the Paradise Garden? The last time it was shown all work on it seemed to have stopped. confused

I was looking forward to this because I'm currently making a water feature out of a rusty, heavy tin tub (rust is considered garden chic at the moment,) a bag of ornamental pebbles, some bamboo canes, chicken wire and a solar powered fountain.

It's a sunny day so I should know later on if it's going to work. Maybe I should tell Monty. grin

Merlotgran. can we have pictures and detailed instructions. I'd love to have a go. I have always wanted a water feature. Just need a rusty bathtub now.

Auntieflo Sat 01-Sep-18 09:35:58

By the way, I never did find the programme about Leicestershire garden ?

gillybob Sat 01-Sep-18 09:40:16

Just caught up with this thread again . I do hope they are not lining Adam Frost up to take over from Monty . I love GW mainly because I love Monty Don’s relaxed presenting style.

merlotgran Sat 01-Sep-18 12:16:09

It's still work in progress, Auntieflo. It definitely needs more pebbles and I might replace the steel rods with bamboo. They're necessary to hold the pump in place or it skitters off to the side and all the water goes over the edge. I got the iron tub from an auction many years ago. It had been painted bright red so to begin with I dug it deep into a border and made a kind of mini bog garden. It's lovely and rusty now so I've dug it up and relocated it.

Hmm, although Monty Don is quite a nice chap I do get tired of the enormous garden and three or four pots of expensive plants and so on. Geoffrey Hamilton used to do lots of money saving ideas I wish they could find someone as good as he was!

Merlotgran I had a water feature a bit like that in my last place , just can't find a spot for it here , I like yours , the pebbles are a nice feature

merlotgran Sat 01-Sep-18 13:29:24

Thanks, aggie. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow. You can see from the pic how much our lawn (or lack of it) has suffered. We live in the driest part of the UK but we are hoping it will eventually recover.

when I had the original water thingy , the GC loved to walk round it to see it starting and stopping ! Now they are all too grown up to do that , I loved the sound of the water , I really must have another go at it .
Our grass was a new turfed lawn which survived the winter but the dry weather resulted in hillocks and dips , we are still trying to sort it

Must admit I've been thinking Adam Frost is being groomed to take over....perhaps a gradual merge then a swap. It would make sense, I've adored Monty over the years but suspect he'd like to step back a bit and do more specials in sunny climes!

Morgana Wed 05-Sep-18 17:46:21

finding Monty very irritating now! Think the programme needs some reformatting. The topic about the small gardens was good, but seeing Monty every week with his wheelbarrow and the shots of the dog are just getting too much for me!!

GrannieBabi Wed 05-Sep-18 19:25:15

What's the problem with Adam Frost? I like him and the pieces about his new garden .... have also thought he might be 'next in line'. He worked with Geoff Hamilton at Barnsdale which is a lovely link to the past.

merlotgran Wed 05-Sep-18 19:33:47

I love Adam Frost's garden and it would be a good setting for GW but he always sounds like he's chewing on a bag full of nails.

It's tonight!
