Someone needs to tell the Anna Friel character that bathroom doors have locks.....

Charleygirl5 Fri 16-Aug-19 15:00:38

grannyticktock not that I would ever have been in that situation but protection would have been top of the list.

Justme67 Fri 16-Aug-19 16:02:50

I am going to stick with it, see where it goes, there is more than one story line here I think.

SisterAct Fri 16-Aug-19 18:11:47

Watched on catch-up and with you Justme67

moggie57 Fri 16-Aug-19 18:18:35

who is anna friel?

Atqui Fri 16-Aug-19 18:28:37

Why didn’t the girl who went shopping with her mother remember she had her best friend coming for a sleepover?

seacliff Fri 16-Aug-19 18:43:42

I suspended belief and really enjoyed it, in fact the next day I binge watched the rest of the series. A lazy and enjoyable day.

Recently I enjoyed all the Poliakoff films, thanks to Gransnet, but this time I was in the mood for the TV equivalent of chick lit. I did think the bathroom scene was a bit unlikely. I actually enjoyed it much more than Keeping Faith, which I gave up on.

I did wonder if they wanted to film in pouring rain all the time, or were they just unlucky. I know they often fake bad weather. Beautiful scenery, makes me want to go back.

BlueBelle Fri 16-Aug-19 19:34:14

Well watched again without falling asleep and loved it I think Anna Friel is great however I m with you Atqui how come the daughter didn’t bring the girl home with her for the sleepover that bit seemed strange

AnnS1 Fri 16-Aug-19 19:42:36

I watched it all, complete series is on STV player. Lots of “holes” in it but wanted to see how it ended. There is also a book available.

Sar53 Fri 16-Aug-19 20:09:30

I've watched 4 episodes so far and yes I am enjoying it. It's not the best thing I've seen but no better or worse than lots of other things.
There really isn't very much worth watching at the moment .

grannyticktock Fri 16-Aug-19 20:24:03

The sleepover thing was all a bit weird.

First, would a "busy" mother mark her daugher's first period by telling her to take an unauthorised day off school, and then take her shopping? I know the event was long overdue, the girl appearing to be about 18, but even so ...

Youngsters are in constant touch by text etc, so why wouldn't the other girl have got in touch with her friend or her mother when she wasn't picked up?

annep1 Fri 16-Aug-19 20:24:05

How do these people always manage to do their... er business and not need to freshen up after?

annep1 Fri 16-Aug-19 20:24:55

By the way I found it boring and incredible and was very disappointed.

Lessismore Fri 16-Aug-19 20:51:02

Do they only have one jumper shop there?

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Aug-19 08:09:27

Like Seacliff I was relaxed about it, binge-watched and enjoyed the whole thing. It's true, there were holes in the plot, but so what?

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Aug-19 08:10:43

Annepl How do these people always manage to do their... er business and not need to freshen up after?

There's never any foreplay or use of condoms either! Just sayin'

Sparklefizz Sat 17-Aug-19 08:14:35

I often wonder how the woman in a steamy and impromptu sexual encounter manages to have sex without actually removing her knickers

I remember an episode of Neighbours about 30 years ago when the character Daphne gave birth while still wearing her tights! It caused great mockery and hilarity.

loopyloo Sat 17-Aug-19 08:50:20

Sounds dreadful! Must watch it......

Justme67 Sat 17-Aug-19 09:44:17

Let us not forget this is FICTION

Grandma2213 Sun 18-Aug-19 02:37:27

I was looking forward to this but was disappointed. The bathroom bonk was very silly! OK so she dropped the thong but wouldn't they both have come down very sweaty (I do have some vague memories, though it has been a very long time!!) There may well have been some 'Monica Lewinsky type stains' on that lovely dress too. The going back for her knickers scenes were also very contrived.

Now the other lady who might need to make some money to support her family I can understand, though fortunately have never been in that position myself.

I'll keep watching. There might be something more interesting about to develop, otherwise the scenery is worth watching!

BlueBelle Sun 18-Aug-19 04:22:42

Got into it, watched the whole lot on iPad and thoroughly enjoyed it I think the tangle of the three woman’s stories was well done and yes there were some bits that you had to wonder about but it is fiction so the author does have the right to some poetic licence
Depends if you are able to see it as a story or wether you need it to be a factual piece of viewing I guess
But a thumbs up from me apart from the bathroom scene ??

Jane43 Mon 19-Aug-19 02:45:11

I thought most of this was contrived nonsense except for the storyline of the compulsive gambler, his physiotherapist wife and their daughter, I enjoyed this part very much. It seemed like two stories in one to me and then I read that it was based on two books.

Atqui Tue 20-Aug-19 21:16:36

We’ve watched five episodes , but can’t download another one, AnnS1 - how many episodes were there. Up to now each subsequent episode downloaded but not episode 6 .,It’s v frustrating!

Atqui Tue 20-Aug-19 21:22:47

By the way I always wonder about the lack of a post coital freshen up - particularly as she didn’t put back any knickers -eugh - as th young ones say !!

Atqui Tue 20-Aug-19 21:24:07

and yes it’s ‘ contrived nonsense’ but entertaining!

Minniemoo Tue 20-Aug-19 21:25:14

Six episodes, Atqui. How frustrating for you!

I found it to be quite watchable and I rather like Anna Friel.

Some of the comments on this thread have made me laugh. The girl did indeed look years older than she was supposed to be!
