I saw it first time round and found it very interesting - and rather sad.

I loved what he said to a reporter "Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant."

I thought he was gorgeous. I have to say, though, that I too watched "To catch a thief" the other night and thought it was dreadful, (though I think a lot of his other films were really good).

He did have an interesting and sad early life which affected his relationships with women but he did find happiness later in his life.

I fell asleep watching it last night [it followed on from something else I'd been watching]. I'll make a point of watching it properly tonight...what I did see was very interesting.

I will watch that. I adored him in everything from Bringing Up Baby to The Pride and the Passion.

I'm a big fan of Cary Grant, what a lovely man. I recorded that programme you mention and am half-way through watching it. Also the film that followed, To Catch A Thief.
Brilliant stuff.

Him and Doris Day were funny in films together. Their humour seemed to bounce off one another. A good looking man.

If you have Sky Arts there has been a long series of programmes ‘Discovering ....’ almost every old movie star you can think of giving details of their lives and showing clips from their movies.

Thanks for this recommendation Jane really enjoyed it. What a handsome man.

I would like a similar one on Katharine Hepburn who I have always admired.

Thanks Jane10. I've just watched it and really enjoyed it. I've always loved his films - he was so good looking and funny.

Well couldn't wait! I found the documentary film style very irritating. All those disconnected snippets of film trying to recreate an LSD trip were just boring. I found his actual life story was interesting enough without that.
His poor mother. It was nice to hear how well he looked after her once he found her again. She didn't seem very mad judging by her letters to him.

Thanks Jane43 ...I'll look that out. My GF grew up (well a few years) with him, when he was Archibald Alexander Leach, as a next door neighbour!!
He was very good looking wasn't he?

Thanks. That looks good. Sunday pm sorted!

I had no idea about Cary Grant’s life and found this film very interesting. It’s 90 minutes long and on the iPlayer until the end of the month
