Watched this last night but not sure if i will continue. I felt it was overly dramatic, especially when the whole town , or it appeared to be, walked up to the site of the accident in the dark. Didn't enjoy the part with the husband and wife were discussing the daughter in hospital, what is that all about??? NOt one i will rush to watch again.

I watched the documentary about Prince Charles, felt it would be more restful! Didn’t fancy this programme at all, I started watching the last one with Sarah Lancashire when she was a social worker I think and a child went missing or killed, but gave up on it, I’m afraid I prefer her in something like Last Tango.

Giri Haji for us. Have recorded it but did wonder if I'd like it. Maybe not?

I watched The Accident last evening on ch4: I am a big fan of Sarah Lancashire, especially Happy Valley, but I was not terribly impressed last evening! Far too many subplots and hidden agendas to start with and, as usual with Ch4 , and too many adverts. I might give it a final chance next week!

I love Sarah lancashire as an actress and was looking forward to this one very much I hope it gets better as I wasn’t very impressed The scene where the husband beat her was so unreal I ve lived in a violent situation and it didn’t ring true at all I shall definitely keep going and fingers crossed it improves I also thought the scene of her with her daughter in the hospital with the deaf woman interpreting the daughters eye movements was quite bizarre

I watched the first half an hour and I doubt if I will continue. I had difficulty, even with subtitles, working out what people were saying because to me they were mumbling.

Yes, I am a bit unimpressed too. I watched a recording, and had to rewind it after half an hour as I'd lost the plot/lost interest. I was knitting, but nothing complicated, so my mind must have wandered whilst watching.

I agree about the violence (although luckily I have no experience of that). I think that the way she comforted him afterwards was unconvincing.

Sometimes a series takes time to bed in, so I will give it a chance - I gave up on the social worker one, too.

I found it very disturbing. The benchmark for what is acceptable entertainment seems to have changed.

Yes I had difficulty with the dialogue as well Charleygirl, the Welsh accent didn't help either. It was all a bit strange, I will watch the next episode before deciding whether to continue or not.

Just watched it tonight but will reserve judgement till the next episode - it all seemed a bit jumbled at the beginning.

whywhywhy Fri 25-Oct-19 21:41:59

I've yet to watch it but I do like Sarah Lancashire.

Eloethan Fri 25-Oct-19 22:30:52

I was looking forward to it too. Sarah Lancashire is usually very good but I didn't find her convincing in this role - or indeed any of the other actors. It was such a tragic accident but it was strangely unmoving and people's reactions seemed phony somehow.

I agree that the scene where her husband beat her up was unbelievable and I found it very distasteful - her appearing to comfort her husband after such sickening violence.

Very disappointing.

I was out so missed the first episode. After reading these posts I’m unlikely to watch it now!
Thanks for stopping me wasting my time on it!

Will decide after episode two.

BlueBelle Thu 31-Oct-19 22:16:30

Boringly bizarre

Gonegirl Thu 31-Oct-19 22:45:00

I couldn't hear what was being said and, as I was watching on catch-up, couldn't have subtitles. Gave up on it.

I think you can tell a good actor partly by their diction. These weren't very good.

Gonegirl Thu 31-Oct-19 22:46:56

Sarah Lancashire is getting to be a big lass isn't she! shock

Resurgam123 Thu 31-Oct-19 23:27:20

Very much the same thoughts, from me.
Not impressed.
Has Sarah Lancashire just taken the next role.?
Many TV stories etc go to far when they put the same actor in a similar situation.
Happy Valley worked as it was, and it was excellent. Stop when you are winning.
Leave your audience wanting more.

I am finding this very frustrating. When it started with the scene between Sarah Lancashire and her daughter I thought it was promising but it quickly went downhill. Many things weren’t explained properly. I fell asleep halfway through last night’s episode and woke up just as the revolting scene between Sarah Lancashire and her husband came on. Yes I realise it was to portray his long term physical and mental abuse of her but the language used was too graphic for me. The only character I have any sympathy for is the deaf lady.

I would have thought Sarah Lancashire could be more choosy with the roles she takes - this is a far cry from Last Tango In Halifax or Happy Valley.

Roses Fri 01-Nov-19 12:34:49

I agree with grapefruit pip watched the first one but won't be watching anymore

grapefruitpip Fri 01-Nov-19 12:54:30

I was a bit low last night and thought to myself " I'll give that Sarah Lancashire thing another go".

Lasted 5 minutes. Depressing and I'm sorry but she is a Northern actress to me.

Oh and her size is irrelevant.

pinkquartz Fri 01-Nov-19 12:58:17

gonegirl

shameful comment. fat shaming her!

pinkquartz Fri 01-Nov-19 12:59:56

I watched the first episode last week but didn't enjoy it. It felt odd and unreal. waste of good actors.
I recorded last night but don't think I will bother watching after reading the comments here....it's just not very good is it?

gma Fri 01-Nov-19 13:10:24

Well......gave the Accident another chance and I lasted 10 minutes! I usually love anything with sarah Lancashire, but, I just couldn’t hack this! Usual complaints, very dis jointed, lack of any clues to what was the back story and too many advert breaks!and overly graphic abuse scenes.
Ps Gonegirl what has Sarah Lancashire’s shape got to do with anybody else?

BlueBelle Fri 01-Nov-19 13:12:19

It IS unreal I don’t even find the Domestiv Violence scenes at all believable I was BORED last night and didn’t expect to say that about either Sarah Lancashire or Mark Lewis Jones as I like them both as actors and they are usually in good dramas
They ve misjudged this one and I m glad it’s only four episodes
