My lovely nephew (bit of a geek) has some vinyl LPs on his Amazon wish list so I told my sister I would buy two for Xmas for him. They came yesterday £44!!! They used to be £29/11!

Is anyone else buying still buying vinyl?

Vinyl is big business. My sister in law had a very large collection of vinyl records left with her by her ex husband. She put them on line, sold them to various specialist collectors and made enough to fund new fitted kitchen!!

My son has a huge collection I don’t know how he finds time to listen to them all. His partner is dreading when they have to move house ?

Yes, vinyl is big business if you have the right ones.
Sadly I don't think ours are!

In the eighties my DH came home with a CD player and said this was the future, vinyl was dead. Sadly we disposed of many of our LPs and most of our 45s the next time we moved house. We did keep one or two we couldn't bear to part with but we should have packed them away in the loft.

Sometime ago I persuaded DH to put a lot of his old vinyl into a skip ?, as we had given our Technics system to a GS.
Then, he bought himself a record player, and started to play some of the records that were left. He loves it.
We also have a dedicated shop that sells vinyl in our town, and it seems to be popular.

Back in the early 90’s I sold all of my DH’s vinyl records as we were skint and had a CD player so he never played them. I am 4 years into replacing them all for him as he really didn’t want to sell them. Needs must I suppose when you have hungry mouths to feed.

Vinyl is incredibly popular with the younger generation. My son made off with nearly my entire collection, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen,Santana my husband's Tamla Motown plus 1 of mine even my Beatles first two albums my dad bought me for my 9th birthday all gone. Left me with some, Mahler, Mozart and Tchcovsky took some Bach as a nod to classical music. ?

I wish I had kept mine. We got rid of a lot of them in the early 2000s in a big clear out. Lovely stuff from the 70s. Carly Simon. Melanie, Dory Previn, Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reid, Neil Diamond etc. I could go on.

They are so much nicer than CDs as you can read the covers. And of course they cost the earth to replace now!

However we have started buying some vinyl 45s picked up in charity shops, with a view to one day getting a record player again.

We’ve got dozens, hidden away in a cupboard under the TV and never ever played, even though the DC bought DH a turntable a few years ago at his request. I think 99% of them are his, so I need to get working on him. smile

Vinyl is becoming more popular today. I live in Canada, so I can't speak to the UK, but the proliferation of vinyl here is incredible. Many stores that sell music and movies also sell vinyl, and there are a few stores (usually independent retailers) that sell almost exclusively vinyl. My kid has a large collection of vinyl and a nice player that we bought for her.

We have thousands of vinyl records . I do mean that . they sit in splendor on several large bookcases. My husband says I can sell them when he's gone . He does play them every so often . They were a real pain when we moved , boxes and boxes of them.

not buying, but still got all our originals from the 60s and 70s- The Stones, Beatles, Cohen, Led Zep and Deep Purple, Hendrix etc - + all my French ones, Vartan, Brel, Moustaki, Ferrat, Ferré, and more. Would not part with them for anything.
