A documentary series about the history of country music begins next Friday, November 22nd on BBC 4. There are 6 episodes screened two a week starting at 9:30pm over three weeks. The series was made by acclaimed documentary maker Ken Burns and should be interesting, especially to anybody with an interest in country music.

Thanks for reminding me; I love Ken Burns documentaries. I've rewatched the American West and Civil War ones several times.

I need to watch that one. Mrs Burns must be so proud of her two sons, Ric and Ken!

Rosecarmel yes it did air in the USA a few months ago because a friend over there recommended it to me. I will ask her if there is any way of watching it in the USA.

Rosecarmel it was screened on PBS. She says to look on your local PBS schedule and they have a national website as well.

If interested and you can find a way to watch it American Experience on PBS aired an episode in 2005 about The Carter Family titled The Carter Family: Will The Circle Be Unbroken-

I watched episodes 3 and 4 yesterday and they were both amazing. I have learnt so much about the lives of the early Country music stars, many of whom escaped from lives of deprivation and poverty through their musical talent. Hank Williams’ story in episode 3 was so interesting, he too had a hard life and died before he was 30. I knew of some of his songs but his talent for writing was amazing and mostly a result of his personal heartbreak. Episode 4 featured Johnny Cash, the Carter family and Patsy Cline. I hope this documentary gets the awards it deserves.
