Did anyone watch it tonight? I did because part of it was filmed just up the road from us (last summer, artificial snow), but this was the best I’ve seen.

Looking forward to next two episodes

Blast, I wanted to see that. Hope its on catch up.

It was very good. Something to look forward to.

Really enjoyed it!

Yehbutnobut Mon 23-Dec-19 07:53:11

Not for the children though!

Greenfinch Mon 23-Dec-19 07:59:31

Exactly.I was hoping the grandchildren would watch it to divert them from their technology but am glad they didn't.

Obviously I know the plot, but in spite of that I was in a state of high tension through much of this. It's a very dramatic re-working of the story.

I'm very curious to find out about Mrs Cratchett and the letter to America; it'll probably be something quite dark.

Strangely enough, we oldies are embracing this version much more enthusiastically than our younger sisters - MumsNet posters are in high dudgeon! smile

Yehbutnobut Mon 23-Dec-19 08:14:49

Are they? Perhaps they should stick to Paddington then ...though I enjoyed that too.

ginny Mon 23-Dec-19 08:15:22

Not all of us. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Turnoff half way through.

Anniebach Mon 23-Dec-19 08:18:46

I didn’t enjoy it and turned it off.

annsixty Mon 23-Dec-19 08:19:48

I forgot to record it so will try it on catchup.
I so enjoyed Paddington, the child in me I suppose.

Pittcity Mon 23-Dec-19 08:45:31

I think this version is like Marmite!
I loved it but had to turn on the subtitles as there was a lot of mumbling.

travelsafar Mon 23-Dec-19 09:03:08

I think the first episode was setting the scene for 'darker' things to come!!!! grin

Calendargirl Mon 23-Dec-19 09:11:59

I started watching it, but thought it was rather depressing, so turned over for a programme about how The Good Life was made. Have seen it before, but it made me laugh.
Had just watched the film The Queen, mostly about the death of Diana of course, and felt I wanted to go to bed on something a bit light.

Grandma70s Mon 23-Dec-19 09:14:33

I thought it committed the sin of being just plain boring. The casting wasn’t good. Poor old Dickens. I went to sleep.

Really enjoyed the Christmas episode of The Good Life!

Teetime Mon 23-Dec-19 09:36:30

We loved it- nice to have a traditional Christmas ghost story.

ninathenana Mon 23-Dec-19 10:11:06

I watched it as DH had it on. I reserve judgement until the next episode.

grannyrebel7 Mon 23-Dec-19 11:11:20

I didn't like it from the outset with that boy peeing on Marley's grave. I thought it was very slow and the characters all wrong. Don't expect Dicken's work to contain the f word either. Like Grandma/70 I fell asleep too. Won't be watching any more episodes. I like my classics to be traditional!

AllTheLs Mon 23-Dec-19 11:15:04

Loved it. Turned off the bright lights, lit a few candles and snuggled up with a blanket and a glass of port to watch it. Creepy, atmospheric and a little bit funny in places. Looking forward to more tonight.

Alypoole Mon 23-Dec-19 12:06:06

It was SO slow.

grannysyb Mon 23-Dec-19 12:51:27

I'm with grannyrebel7,found it slow, didn't like the swearing, give me the '51 version with Alastair Som any day.

Mapleleaf Mon 23-Dec-19 15:43:15

I enjoyed it. Hoping it is on catch up as I won't see episode 2 tonight as doing something. It's different to the other versions, of course, but still quite good, though I agree about the F word!

BBbevan Mon 23-Dec-19 16:35:43

Apart from the swearing,I quite enjoyed it. Will be recording Eps 2 tonight

EllanVannin Mon 23-Dec-19 16:44:57

I was watching the Chateau Christmas---which was lovely.

Urmstongran Mon 23-Dec-19 17:03:12

I don’t fancy it so didn’t tune in.
