Am I stuck in the past in that I'm just a little peeved that the new Spitting Image is only to be "streamed" on Britbox? I didn't actually know what Britbox is and have just Googled "streaming" to find out how that works - and still am not sure. Looks like I shall miss watching Spitting Image.

I was disappointed too, re Britbox. I'm not sure how it works and whether you'd have to pay. Clueless, really. What a pity!

Kamiso Wed 30-Sep-20 20:39:08

I think you have to pay to watch Britbox. Not sure if you pay to join or for each programme.

£5.99 per month but you can have a 30 day free trial. Apparently.
As well as the Licence fee.......

Calendargirl Wed 30-Sep-20 20:40:45

Don’t have Britbox, but think it’s £5.99 a month?

Oopsminty Wed 30-Sep-20 20:42:48

I shall be getting Britbox!

ExD Wed 30-Sep-20 20:47:38

You shall?

I shan't, I might have before they took our free license from us! I never watched it before but had actually considered trying it this time round. Not if I have to pay though.

I loved Spitting Image the first time around.

No idea what else is on Britbox as I hadn't heard of it.

Surprising there are trailers for it on terrestrial TV yet you can't watch it on there.

It’s like a privatisation of broadcasting isn’t it?
Netflix, Britbox, Sky Sport etc etc etc

I was looking forward to seeing the new Spitting Image.Such a lot of material at the moment!

Didn't realise it was on Britbox. How disappointing

I’m disappointed too about Spitting Image being on Britbox. I used to love Spitting Image and what a fantastic amount of characters there are at the moment to caricature. Shall not be subscribing to Britbox though.

Calendargirl Wed 30-Sep-20 22:02:21

Britbox seems to be repeats of stuff that’s been on before, apart from Spitting Image.

You're right. We've just downloaded it.

They have a strange array of films as well. All the Carry On ones of all things. Also That Riviera Touch with Morecambe and Wise!

I think we'll just keep it for the first month which is free.

merlotgran Wed 30-Sep-20 22:15:36

We have Netflix so will give BritBox a miss.

The Crown is more important than Spitting Image. grin

NfkDumpling Wed 30-Sep-20 22:55:22

Haven't figured out Netflix either - but at least I can understand what it is. I'm a bit flummoxed as to the advantage of this streaming lark. I gather its not downloaded, so you can just watch when you want but its not saved?

merlotgran Wed 30-Sep-20 22:57:58

You can download things to save on Netflix.

NfkDumpling Thu 01-Oct-20 09:40:02

Oh, now you're getting complicated Merlot. I've just had an email saying our Netflix account needs renewing. I didn't know we had one so am slightly suspicious!

I do have Amazon Prime and am slowly figuring that out. At the moment I'm definitely not getting my money's worth there.

ExD Sun 04-Oct-20 14:39:16

I find I'm getting suspicious of all these new things that have to be paid for - its as though everywhere I look someone is trying to run away with yet another bit of my pension.
I can't decide what's a scam or what's genuine and it makes me feel wary of anything new.
Its a pity.
Like NfkDumpling and Prime. I joined for a month's free trial, then a month later I see they've taken £7.99 a month subscription. I don't remember ever signing up to a monthly subscription!
Now its TV.
They're after our money!

I took the free month of Britbox to watch Upstairs Downstairs, but kept it up, as there are other things I enjoy on it ( currently The Good Life, Downton Abbey, Last Tango in Halifax,,and lots of David Attenborough) Old episodes of Have I Got News For You are good to see again.
As for Spitting Image, I was distinctly underwhelmed. It could be because programmes like The Windsors have made it more difficult for other programmes to be ‘ outspoken’.

grannyticktock Sun 04-Oct-20 15:13:25

I have just subscribed to Britbox. There's a 7-day free trial, which gives me a chance to see if it suits me. The main problem (apart from having to pay!) is that it isn't compatible with all (or even most?) TV sets. Because my Samsung smart TV is more than 4 years old, it isn't supported, so I have to make do with watching on my tablet or casting it to the TV set using "screen mirroring" which is OK but is sometimes a little ragged and out of synch. They say they are working to support a wider range of TV but it seems quite a major flaw to me. I can (it says) download things to watch offline but only for 30 days, which I suppose could be handy for a holiday etc.

NfkDumpling Mon 05-Oct-20 14:45:00

Another couple of years and we'll be subscribing to everything.
