Anyone see Cliff being interviewed by Piers? I thought he came across very well and is a lovely man. I think the false sex allegation against him has really taken its toll on him though. What a terrible thing to have happened to him after such a long music career without a whiff of scandal prior to this. Surely these people who make false accusations should be named and shamed and given a custodial sentence. It's hard to believe that Cliff is 80 years old. He only looks about 50. I do think however that he's too thin and why was he wearing his tie undone? Either do it up or don't wear one at all! Apart from that long may he continue to keep us entertained.

I caught the second part of the programme and couldn't believe he is now 80. He came across as genuine and with a sense of humour. It was lovely seeing the old clips of him singing too.

Remember watching a documentary celebrating his 60th!

Where has that 20 years gone?

?

Nothing to do with his suffering at the hands of the BBC, but I’ve always thought him fake and forced. He comes across to me as a living picture, where the real person is completely concealed behind a facade. He was very clever deflecting questions with humour and turning things around, it all seemed rehearsed somehow. I will now get my hard hat and hide behind sofa.

I agree Bluebellwould

I'm another in the Bluebellwould camp. Fake and forced, not genuine and his real personality completely concealed behind that phoney front.

I was always an Elvis fan and irritated by my cousin who was in the Cliff camp. She had a poster of him over her bed where I had to sleep when we stayed with them. Yuk. Never really liked him or his music but did feel he was quite nice last night, humorous and friendly so I’m surprised at the reaction of others.
Perhaps he does hide behind some sort of facade, I don’t know, but if so, I think I prefer that to today’s so called celebrities who like to bare all and I don’t mean skimpy clothes.

Urmstongran Mon 26-Oct-20 09:56:30

No smoke without fire.
I don’t trust him.

Iam64 Mon 26-Oct-20 09:59:23

Oh My Urmston, We may have found an area we can agree on.

henetha Mon 26-Oct-20 10:09:32

I agree with grannyrebel7. Cliff is a lovely man, and has been devastated by false accusations.

Anniebach Mon 26-Oct-20 10:13:13

There was no emotion, I don’t mean tears rolling , no warmth,
nothing .

Nightsky2 Mon 26-Oct-20 10:16:26

Such a sad man I always think, always putting up a facade.

If he looks about 50 than I look about about 40. (I wish).

Urmstongran Mon 26-Oct-20 10:23:28

Iam64 ??

Looks - he's lived clean and looked after his health - and is blessed with good genes. Personality - If I'd lived his life I think I'd be pretty guarded about how much I let show. The allegations - he was abused by the press and Police and if there had been substance to them both he and any complainants are victims of the media. We've all got long pasts - lets be kind.

Sorry I cannot warm to Cliff Richard, I watched last nights interview and my opinion is unchanged.

Dorsetcupcake61 Mon 26-Oct-20 11:04:13

I watched because despite all his faults I always think Piers Morgan a good interviewer and feel I know more about the person he interviews. I came away from this non the wiser! I dont dislike Cliff but hes either incredibly bland or deceptive!

TrendyNannie6 Mon 26-Oct-20 11:09:04

Oh nooooo, I missed it

Whitewavemark2 Mon 26-Oct-20 11:14:03

Oh yes “Kitty”.

Nothing real about him.

merlotgran Mon 26-Oct-20 11:27:26

I don't like the way Piers Morgan's interviews are heavily edited. There's no flow - just quickfire questions and Cliff's answers. followed by Piers's loud laughter. came across as staged and false.

Michael Parkinson would have done a much better job.

Calendargirl Mon 26-Oct-20 13:00:00

He’s very guarded about his private life, and why not?
I think in some ways he has probably lived a rather selfish life, which is why he has never had a real sort of relationship.
He now seems rather sexless somehow, if that makes sense.

Iam64 Mon 26-Oct-20 13:04:34

Yes Whitwave

merlotgran Mon 26-Oct-20 13:16:34

I suppose the one person who knows more about Cliff's sexuality than anyone is Sue Barker.

She has always remained tight lipped but a few years ago I read that she had turned down an appearance on a chat show because, 'They'll only want to ask me about bloody Cliff!'

Whingingmom Mon 26-Oct-20 13:16:49

I agree with Calendar Girl, he does give the impression of being rather sexless, and rather manufactured. And if you consider accumulating a lot of wealth as a definition of success, then he has been successful in his career.

I liked Cliff when I was 12 or so and saw Summer Holiday but it always feels to me that he is very stuck in that jolly and faux innocent era! I moved on!
Bland is a good description of him...though he has made a good life for himself out of his blandness! I think the fact that he does seem to have led an almost secretive life..some say private... made people speculate about him. I have read speculations in the media that he is asexual /homosexual/heterosexual ..none of it my business. When I see him on TV I cannot 'warm' to him and wonder if the Cliff Richard persona has actually taken him over and he has lost Harry Webb completely?

Nanawind Mon 26-Oct-20 13:25:54

I think Cliff came across as a very selfish person. When told by his management that he could lose fans if he got married
boom he dumped the girlfriend.
