I am really holding my breath and hoping that the story line with Dom having to have a stoma will show that this does not need to mean any alteration to his life. Somehow, I doubt it - in the past they have had patients requiring one of these, and I can remember the Doctors telling their partner that they would now need life-long care.
That made me so angry at the time, and I did actually write to BBC - not something I often do - but it could well have put off someone needing this surgery having it done. For many people who require stomas, it is actually the ending of really bad health issues and the beginning of a great normal life. Yes, obviously, if it is carried out on a young person, particularly as an emergency due to an accident - it will be a shock, however this particular patient is supposed to be a doctor and, therefore, should know full well that there is no reason for any part of his life to be amended, once he has fully recovered from the surgery. I would have thought he would be more concerned about the spleenectomy - which will mean that he needs to be on medication for the rest of his life.
