Browsing Bflix after watching The Duchess of Duke Street, I found The Thorn Birds.
Was not Richard Chamberlain the most handsome man ever?
I loved him in Dr.Kildare too, and was delighted to read that he is also a very nice man.
Still alive and kicking at 86.

Yes! The Thorn Birds, in the days when everyone watched at the same time. If you missed it, you missed it. He was also the rather wonderful Dr Kildare.

He was/is Daddima.
A great actor too.
I was surprised to find out he was gay,why are so many gay men so handsome ? and lovely.
I know 5 and love chatting with them we have such a laugh.

Yes he was a handsome man but not as handsome as Gregory Peck IMO. Glad to hear he is still with us and that he is a very nice man.

Oh yes, I loved him in the Thorn Birds, gave me a bit of a thing about priests!

Oh yes, such a dreamboat. I’d love to watch the Thorn Birds again. Wonderful stuff.

I seem to recall when watching the Thornbirds that I was a bit surprised that he had short legs, out of proportion with his body..

Most of my class at school was in love with him because they all watched Dr Kildare; we didn't have a TV so I didn't join the fan club grin

Sorry, I don't think he was most handsome man ever; Gregory Peck & Paul Newman would be on my list.

Handsome yes but in my view totally miscast as Ralph de Bricassart, who I visualised as dark and brooding!!

Lucca Sun 31-Jan-21 15:30:30

Not my type either. I favour the more Latin type .....

I loved Richard Chamberlain in The Thorn Birds! I am also enjoying the good looks of Christopher Cazenove in the Duchess too!

Vickysponge I’m watching it on Bflix, which is a free, legal site. You can get the link on Google. I’ve seen the episodes come on with no sound, and when you click for sound, an ad pops up, but it’s easy enough just to shut the ad down and do it again.

Always thought the actress who played Megan was a bit wooden. She went on to marry in real life the chap who played her husband, Luke O’ Neill.

Thank you Daddima. That’s brilliant!

Thought he was very handsome but not as handsome as Elvis

EllanVannin Sun 31-Jan-21 17:06:23

Blinkin' 'eck, I googled Bflix and got a Korean station then a pop-up " Do you want sex in Wigan ?"

Hmmm. Not a patch on Cary Grant ;)

Ooh yes young Elvis was gorgeous but he didn't age very well, unlike the others mentioned.

I’m pretty sure he took time out from his tv stuff to work at Birmingham Rep to improve his acting skills. I also think that I saw him in the street in Brum too, but it might be my memory playing tricks....

seacliff Sun 21-Feb-21 22:37:05

He was on my wall (see other thread ) when he played Dr Kildare.

Marmight Sun 21-Feb-21 22:48:11

I was a weekly boarder and the highlight of my week was returning home to watch Richard Chamberlain as Dr Kildare on friday nights. I had him plastered over my bedroom walls and had all the RC magazines. Some time later a friend sat behind him and his partner in a London theatre. I was devastated. Gone were my hopes for marriage to my heart throb ??

Bixiboo Sun 21-Feb-21 22:57:54

Loved Richard Chamberlain in The Thorn Birds. I was surprised when I found out he was gay, but that’s the way things go sometimes.

Chestnut Sun 21-Feb-21 23:43:56

Loved him in the Thorn Birds and also in Shogun. He was always so dashing and handsome in those swashbuckling parts. But the prize for the most beautiful man ever to walk the earth has to go jointly to Paul Newman and Elvis!

Grannybags Mon 22-Feb-21 00:05:42

Loved the Thorn Birds but not Richard Chamberlain. I agree with Lucca not right for the part at all!

I loved the book of The Thorn Birds. It was a good holiday read when I was in Cornwall one year. Also another book by the same author: can’t remember what it was called but it had a character called Missy. I used to read much heavier books back then so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
