Watched this over the last couple of days, the first episode was a bit slow, but it was a very good series. The usual warnings ie drug taking nudity etc. But quite funny.
The Hotel manager was certainly outward smiles and inward screams! An Australian Basil Fawlty, but I sympathised with him having to deal with the rich entitled Americans.
Connie Britton stars with some other familiar faces and a lovely beach.

Where is this on ?

Jaxjacky Thu 19-Aug-21 09:02:51

One and a half episodes in, gosh you feel like you want to shake some of them!
Lucca Sky Atlantic.

Sorry forgot to put the Channel, love the music though especially the closing credits.

This series got rave reviews but no one seemed to notice the ‘hilarious’ full view of male genitalia (wife inspecting the area as husband worried about possible cancer) in episode one. I’m not a prude (or maybe I am by today’s standards) but I reached for the remote control immediately. Who needs that? Amazed it was allowed to be honest.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 19-Aug-21 09:31:38

Oh, we noticed it Kate but it was ‘in context’ as they say and until you get to the end of the series there isn’t any thing else that will pop up to shock you.
Although I’m so used to DH having films on with carnage, blood and gore flying all over the place , some gentle nudity and humour is a nice change.

But which channel or streaming service?!

Namsnanny Thu 19-Aug-21 11:07:19

It's on sky Atlantic Aveline, but I get it through the Now box.

Aveline Thu 19-Aug-21 11:16:48

Thanks. Will check it out this pm. I'm needing a change from 'Virgin River'!

henetha Thu 19-Aug-21 11:54:03

I loved this. Clever satire.

Aveline Thu 19-Aug-21 16:14:05

I started to watch it. Not sure if it's the production but there seemed to be a rather brown light over it all. It could be my TV but it's perfect on all other programmes.
Somehow it just didn't hold me. I gave up. Disappointed though.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 19-Aug-21 16:28:38

I think they put a tint on it, probably to make out that it’s all shot on location in the bright sunshine. Try to persevere after episode 2 it really picks up.

Jaxjacky Thu 19-Aug-21 17:01:25

Halfway through episode 5 now Oops, feel a bit guilty watching so much during the day, it’s quite addictive in a perverse sort of way!

I loved it! Hooked from episode one and binge watched the remainder of the series. Shocking, funny and strangely uplifting ( the son was my favourite character). Give me a bit of nudity over gratuitous violence any day Kate54 .

Never switch on that programme called Naked Attraction - your eyes will fall out!

Jaxjacky Sun 22-Aug-21 11:09:39

Finished watching on Friday, only the second series I’ve ever watched all of the episodes ahead of their scheduled slots. I enjoyed it all, no issue with the nudity, it was in context, nor the language.

Babs758 Sun 22-Aug-21 11:12:36

I hope this comes on Netflix or mainstream tv some time. It will probably make me cringe with white middle class guilt!!

henetha Sun 22-Aug-21 11:15:07

There is something quite yuk in episode 6... !

lemongrove Sun 22-Aug-21 11:24:00

Thanks for the recommendation Oops

inishowen Sun 22-Aug-21 11:29:35

I started watching last night and it looks good. Will get back to it tonight. I was shocked at the male genitalia bit. Just didn't expect it!

Kate54 Sun 22-Aug-21 11:33:26

Agree about the violence v. nudity Petall and Naked Attraction - turned TV off before my eyeballs could fall out! But the White Lotus genitalia was too much. Don’t think it was even real. Americans are usually very cautious about that sort of stuff. Does anyone remember what my mother used to call ‘TV pyjamas’ - flies firmly sewn up in bedroom scenes.?

tigger Sun 22-Aug-21 11:38:43

Yes, the male genitalia was a bit of a shock and so soon into the first episode.

Aepgirl Sun 22-Aug-21 11:51:43

I don’t subscribe to any extra channels so sadly can’t watch.

The beautiful Hawaiian music can be found on Spotify under this: Nā Mele Hawai'i: A Rediscovery of Hawaiian Vocal Music
Album by Rose Ensemble. Didn't like the original music very much, but these songs are heavenly.

celialillian Sun 22-Aug-21 12:47:10

I watched it, it was funny, and thought of Basil Faulty straight away. The one scene of nudity was so brief it was hardly noticed. How can mature women be shocked at this, We all know what men look like and women look like, this is the 21st centaury not Victorian era. I would never judge a new series on the first showing, like a book you have to be introduced to the characters and the theme of the story. You will seldom find a first episode of anything riveting. Give it a chance you might be missing something really good.
