I came across this wonderful programme on Sunday evening. It is one of Alan Yentob’s Imagine series and I was engrossed in her story. It made me want to read some of her books.

I read most of Edna O'Brien's books when I was in my 20's - many many years ago. I am not sure how much they will have dated over the last 40 years but that doesn't really matter.

You can get The Country Girls trilogy for £6.99 on Amazon (paperback)

I recently bought The Little Red Chairs which is one of her more recent novels.

I am planning to read this and maybe re-read her earlier stuff. However my TBR (to be read) pile of books gets bigger and bigger every week

Me too. Not helped by the fact that I don’t read as much as I used to but still buy books out of habit. I loved The Country Girls. And I have a copy of The Little Red Chairs which I bought from a charity shop but haven’t got round to reading. She really is a force of nature, isn’t she. I might have seen the Imagine programme before but will happily watch it again ( I’ll have forgotten most of it!).
