Just watched the second episode. Supposed to be a comedy. Starring Alison Steadman.

Not remotely funny. Don’t think I’ll bother with any more.

I agree. Started to watch with high hopes after reading about it but just found it irritating. Gave up on it.

It’s ghastly!

This has received rave reviews in the press. We thought it was dreadful.

I was SO disappointed as I rate AS highly. She certainly doesn't suit the accent, if nothing else. It's a no from me.

Shandy57 Sat 07-May-22 13:33:42

I'm disappointed too, too clunky and odd casting. Won't be watching.

I quite liked the first episode, the second not quite so much. I'll carry on and see where we go. The characters are not very loveable and a bit quirky. It's not bad but I much prefer Not Going Out which is brilliant.

I also thought it was absolutely dire, and we won't be watching again.
However, @Kim19, Alison Steadman was born and bred in Liverpool, so her accent, whilst not actually scouse, is definitely Merseyside!
I wasn't paying enough attention to know whether her character is supposed to be a Merseysider, but her accent most certainly is!
So as the Merseyside accent is natural to her, she must suit it! smile

Watched first episode, didn't enjoy it at all, very disappointing.

Not just me then! I watched a bit of the first episode and it just seemed same old, same old, cliched rehash. Very disappointing.

Kim19 Sat 07-May-22 20:55:23

I sit corrected, J. Didn't know that but certainly isn't the accent I'm used to hearing her with. She has lovely dulcet tones too. Think she is generally a terrific and versatile actor.

Kandinsky Sat 07-May-22 21:11:36

I really enjoyed it. Actually laughed! which is unusual for me with sit coms.
Alison Steadmans character wasn’t particularly funny, but the younger cast were funny, especially the son. his wife, & her brother? ( I think? ). The one going out with the Latin American dancer anyway grin

Soroptimum Sat 07-May-22 21:16:18

Loved it. A bit different and quirky.

This program is brilliant, I find it hits a nerve(albeit slightly exaggerated), on the humdrum stuff of life. The cast are spot on, and it is so well performed. Can't understand all the critiscism of it, I think it deserves to be shown.

Calendargirl Mon 09-May-22 19:50:57

The last three posters, you must have been watching a different show to the rest of us.

It was dire. Alison Steadman must need the money badly to participate in these so called comedies.

‘The Last Sunset’ along with John Cleese was another load of rubbish.

I wasn’t going to watch it but I might give it a go because, ever since The IT Crowd, I’ve love anything that Katherine Parkinson is in.

Deedaa Wed 18-May-22 22:56:23

Certainly not a patch on The IT Crowd MayBee70

I must rewatch my box set! The funny thing is, turning it off and turning it back on again really does work. I often lose my internet connection ( thanks Talk Talk) and systematically go round unplugging everything chuckling to myself.
