For me it is The Railway Children and Goodnight Mr Tom.

They are pure escapism for me and on a miserable afternoon i will curl up on the sofa and watch.

My little grandaughter is starting to enjoy them too and asks if we can watch them when she comes to stay.

Line of Duty! grin. There's always something new in it as it's so complex.

I like Happy Valley too. Great stuff.

I've watched Brief Encounter many times, and Psycho.

Guardians of the Galaxy. It's so witty. Can't wait for the second one to come out next week.

Pretty Woman and West Side Story

For feel good escapism, Mamma Mia! Always makes me smile and I can't help singing along. Sunshine on Leith has the same effect, but possibly more so if you know Edinburgh and don't mind music from The Proclaimers!

Out of Africa
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Dr Zhivago

The Glen Miller Story and On Golden Pond. Oh and The African Queen, The Lady in the Van, Saving Private Ryan and The Best Marigold Hotel. That'll do for now grin

Those lists are all great - I always watch Goodnight Mr Tom - and The Railway Children when it is on. I also love Al Pacino in The Scent of aWoman.

It happened one night (Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert)
Monkey business (a very young Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe)
Pirates of the Caribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl)

My all time favourite films are Godfather 1 and 2, Dr Zhivago and Barry Lyndon which was quite niche but exquisite all have wonderful soundtracks and I always feel I could watch them again. I got given "Brief Encounter" a few years ago and whilst this was an acclaimed film of it's time I find the English stilted, cut glass accents highly amusing as well as some of the terminology. I watched it with my late mum once to take her back down memory lane and she said "I'd forgotten how awful the acting was then". Having said that I love "Gone with the Wind". I quite like the Bridget Jones feel good factor films with their romanticised version of England produced no doubt for the American market.
