GP Surgery ch 5

Zapping around in boredom yes I did. She could easily have left them in the waiting area.

Didn’t watch it last night but I have seen it and been very jealous.
Those GP’s seem sad their patients off for further tests at the drop of a hat.

I did and I felt the same as you even if I was totally terrified I would have bit my tongue and never in a million years would I have put that show on their young shoulders. the older one looked a bit bored by it all, but the younger one was very supportive of his mum and a horrific show of selfishness on her part i wanted to shake her and say grow up you’ve been through childbirth twice and this is only a little prick (excuse the pun)

Why do so many of them traipse half the family into the appointment with them? I can understand taking a partner along, especially if the patient is forgetful or seriously ill, but a family outing no way!

I felt very much the same about her ‘behaviour’. I’m dentist phobic and have sedation (due to a horrific childhood experience) but my girls never knew and both are ok with any treatment. I did wonder, if it might have been appropriate for the Nurse to suggest that the boys stayed in the waiting room?

I do often think, with all the advances in modern medicine, that by now we should have found a better, less painful, method to draw blood.

I remember biting my tongue and smiling 'cheerily' as our jolly GP showed my 5 year old how to remove the stitches from my back!! (I'd had a mole removed).

I did wonder how she had managed to get through childbirth.

I agree that she should have left her sons in the waiting room. Frankly I could not see what all the fuss was about; but was trying to think charitable thoughts!

I wonder why the woman wasn't given an anaesthetic cream to apply an hour beforehand, if she was known to be that phobic. It is difficult with young children, must better to leave them at home or with a neighbour or a friend if you can, but some don't have that option, and you can't leave children unattended in a waiting room.

I spent part of my life as a medical secretary, and would occasionally take on childminding duties while the mums had their post natal examinations, don't think the staff would have the time these days, and no doubt safeguarding would come into play too.

I do always look the other way but it is no more than a little prick ?

I'm not too fond of needles myself but would never show my dislike to my children as she did,on the sleeve of her jacket she was sporting a Red Cross Ambulance motif so she must have had experience of seeing people having needles but if she is frightened there is nothing to be done poor thing

DD's boss (a professor) has a needle phobia. His wife is a doctor. She had to go and fetch him one day because he had passed out at the dentist. Apparently she hustled him out while hissing "How can you embarrass me like this?" Never marry a doctor if you're looking for sympathy

We watch this programme every week and I had the same reaction to this woman and I also wondered how somebody who had two children could have such an over the top reaction but I suppose a phobia can have this effect on somebody.

I think the patients of this practice are very fortunate in the range of services they get. DH has suffered for years with ingrowing toenails and even though he is a diabetic our surgery have been unable to give him any sort of podiatry service. So he has been paying to see a private podiatrist who is trying to give him relief from the ingrowing toenails but he will probably eventually have to have the same procedure the young man had in last night’s programme. It will cost my DH over £300 to have the same procedure the young man had at his GP surgery. He could try to be put on the NHS waiting list but the waiting list was 18 months when he enquired and is probably longer now.
