So I’ve got Netflix and Amazon prime…. Can’t find anything to watch ! A film ? A good series ?
I’ve done queens gambit offspring rake Bridgerton call my agent anatomy of a scandal (excellent) etc etc
Got bored with House of Gucci.

Don’t like anything too violent or too cheesy but like period drama (not lark rise…) loved grace and Frankie.

Is that western with Benedict C in worth it ?.

I’m spending a lot more time with the tv these days.

I gave up on the Benedict C film after 15 mins. I have been watching This Is Us, which is the story of a family through time and Harry Bosch, if you like the books. Sorry but I can’t remember if they are on Netflix or Prime.

Amazon Prime

The Last Tycoon (series) is set in 1920s Hollywood, I enjoyed it very much.

Lucy and Desi (film]

The Help (film)

Might fit the bill.

I don’t think any of my best watches fit your preferences, same with Netflix.

I am getting hooked on 10% on Prime, every ending a cliff hanger, good fun.

That’s the English version of call my agent !

I recently binge Bosch on Prime. Gritty LA cop.
Still a massive fan of Heartland if you like Horses.

JaneJudge Fri 13-May-22 20:07:56

I liked pieces of her on netflix but it is a bit violent.

The Kominsky method is good but you might cry, there are several seasons

JaneJudge Fri 13-May-22 20:08:46

Do you like comedy?

Grandmabatty Fri 13-May-22 20:10:24

Have you watched 'The Detectorists'? It's very gentle humour. Mrs Maisel on prime is worth a look

Galaxy Fri 13-May-22 20:16:43

My son has introduced me to things I wouldnt have known about. Loved Atypical and also Sweet Tooth.

Shandy57 Fri 13-May-22 20:29:25

I loved Anne with an E, Breaking Bad, Schitt's Creek, Maid, Downtown Abbey, The Split.

Mad Men was amazing, about advertising in NY in the 60's.

Just bought Belfast on Amazon Prime for £4.99, didn't rate it, I was hoping to see more about the Orange Men.

Lucca Fri 13-May-22 21:38:39

I’ve seen the detectorists yes and the split and the kominsky method.
Thanks fir the suggestions

We loved Dirty John on Netflix, the title put us off but we were hooked immediately.
Two true stories, gripping.

Inventing Anna
Tinder Swindler
Bad Vegan
Emily in Paris (light stuff)
Currently watching Dirty John, excellent.
All on Netflix

Lucca I also loved Grace and Frankie and have just discovered today that the final 12 episodes of season 7 were added to Netflix on April 29th. It was left unfinished after episode 4. I’m going to refresh my memory (I hope) by watching series 7 episode 4 again then look forward to the final 12 episodes.

Yes the true crime type series are very good, I watched that one and The Unabomber on Netflix was very good too, very gripping.

I just finished Inventing Anna, I thought it was exceptionally good, the girl who played Anna was brilliant.

The Magnificent Seven is on Netflix now, the remake starring Denzel Washington. I’ve watched it three times ! I love westerns. It’s rated a 12 which is all I’ll watch as I find modern films too bloodthirsty and violent nowadays. There’s a lot of shooting in it but it’s not all slow motion nasty stuff. I used to love Wagon Train, Rawhide, Branded, I’ve always been a sucker for anyone wearing a cowboy hat !

MiniMoon Fri 13-May-22 23:55:45

On Prime I'm really enjoying Outer range.
It's a strange modern day cowboy science fiction series with new episodes every Friday.

The Courier on Prime is a film based on the true story of an Englishman acting as a courier for MI6 during the Cold War.
It is a fascinating account of the relationship between the courier and the Soviet official who passed on information to the West. Magnificent acting from the lead characters.

Have you watched Julia yet Lucca?
Or The Gilded Age?
I’ve started watching both, but have decided to save them for when I can pay more attention to them and savour them properly.

DH is enjoying A Place to Call Home, which has many plaudits on here.
The clothes, cars etc are fabulous.
I don’t think that it’s cheesy, but you seem to have a much lower tolerance to lactose than I do! wink

I’m also really enjoying old series of The Pottery Throwdown for some reason

TwiceAsNice Sat 14-May-22 07:21:48

Lucifer on Prime played by Tom Ellis . It’s ridiculous trash but I love it. He’s supposed to be helping a female police detective but he’s really Satan having a change of heart. Two others play dark angels but they all look like normal people. It’s hilarious

MerylStreep Sat 14-May-22 07:32:29

Schitts Creek ?
I’m on my 3rd time of watching the series.
The best film ( lately) Mao’s last Dancer. Amazing true story.

Orangemen wouldn't be very interesting. They are a group like the masons who like to march.I don't know anyone in it but it used to be a nice, harmless family day out before all the troubles.

On BBC i-player we've re-watched "Us" starring Tom Hollander and Saskia Reeves, which is a total delight. Lots of good things to be found here, some of which we are re-watching and some we are watching for the first time. 3 series of The Bridge - fantastic!

On ITVHub we are currently watching "Flesh & Blood" which was on about 4 years ago, with Francesca Annis and Imelda Staunton - an excellent mystery, very well acted and with gorgeous seaside location.

ITVHub also has Cracker, one of my favourite things of all time; Robbie Coltrane was just amazing .
