When these trains are 8 carriages long. Who exactly can go back to work? Who really is fit enough to cycle or walk daily then work and do the same coming home? Emilymaria I agree with every word you say. Just can't understand how anyone thinks Boris is doing a good job. His whole life has been a hedonistic disaster. But then many Americans think tRump is doing a good job

I have friends in France who know exactly what they can or can't do and have known for a while in preparation for their coming out of a stricter lockdown .

The tubes are already seriuosly overcrowded with no social distancing possible while it is just keyworkers travelling so it will be chaos if lots go back to work ... I could not get to work without using a bus or tube but should i resign and then not be able to pay bills or take the risk that if i get cv it will be mild and pray my vulnerable husband doesnt catch it who is likely to be very ill...difficult and stressful choices for lots of people

keep frequently washing yours hands wherever you can especially when coming back indoors from any outing! easy to get complacent after a while but, it is essential! stay alert!

I thought it’s as ok he did praise us and I knew he would do that. But it’s exactly as I expected I just count the days now when I can return to work. Childcare so it might be June.

Absolutely dreadful. No clear guidelines. Contradictions in nearly every sentence. A ridiculous and meaningless new slogan. Primary children should not go back on 1st June. It is utterly impossible for young children to maintain social distancing. I believe most parents will not allow their children to return. Wish we lived in Scotland. Nicola Sturgeon actually had a functioning brain.

I think Boris did his best after all we are in unknown territory. I do think lockdown has been hit n miss abd was shocked to see photographs in the press this morning of tubes with people sitting close together no masks no social distancing. I believe the levels will go back up and we will end up in a far stricter lockdown than we have. Let’s hope a vaccination is discovered soon.

My family could bike here along the ‘old road’, a dead end for walkers and bikes only. To go and meet in a park would involve 2 cars.

Re: working from home, I can do that no problem, it’s just that the clients can’t get to me! I’m a beauty therapist, I sterilise everything between clients anyway and have gloves and masks.
If only my clients had longer legs I could probably cut their toenails*. That seems to be the biggest problem for my older clients.

I am absolutely astonished that anyone is gullible enough to think that last night’s joke performance by a bad actor was anything more than cynical and ignorant self interest. ‘Low skilled’ / blue collar workers might as well be thrown straight on a funeral pyre. Boris Johnson is the man who made up the joke about straight bananas when he worked for the Telegraph, whose ex-employer, Max Hastings, said he was utterly unsuited to a position of power. This is the man who WENT ON HOLIDAY for 2 weeks in February when the pandemic was clearly signalled, then failed to attend FIVE COBRA meetings. This is the ‘prime minister’ (I wake up feeling not too bad in the morning until I remember that we have an elitist buffoon in our country’s most important role) ... this is the ‘prime minister’ who lied about £350m per week for the NHS, who lied to the Queen - whose natural demeanour is to lie about anything - who boasted about shaking hands with coronavirus patients and then caught it himself (wonderful PR opportunity, that, we’ll never be allowed to forget it). His wanton lifestyle encompasses the many and random children he has, holidays paid for by anonymous donors - and, yes, the lying again. He has surrounded himself with incompetent toadies (how Rishi Sunak slipped through, heaven knows - guaranteed he won’t last long, he’s too intelligent) such as Raab and Patel, and has his thinking skewed by Cummings, so our possibility of having any effective government is practically nil. There will be a second spike, and soon. Johnson and his cohorts will blame the public for not being alert enough. Problem solved - not the Tories’ fault. If you are so politically uninformed that you think Johnson is OK, you must have fairies at the bottom of your garden or, heaven help you if you live in an inner city high rise flat, on your balcony. Just hope, for your sake, that no-one in your family is a bus driver or a nurse or a factory worker, a waiter, a garbage collector, a post person, a taxi driver, an underground worker, a security guard...anyone who can’t work from home.

i for one will not be changing my lockdown habits, just because you are taking adequate precautions it doesn't mean the person near you is and maybe even less so now. I have returned to work - 2 weeks ago- but only once the company I work for had consultations with the staff and then implemented safe working procedures including providing ppe and this did not happen over night. unfortunately the PMs message has given the already irresponsible idiots more chance to continue being idiots. I came to this site looking for help with a health prob. Saw thisthread, couldn't resist commenting.
Does this mean that charities will soon be able to do maintenance work soon? I volunteer on a Heritage Railway, they have been doing essential safety and track-work. I wonder if we can soon expand that whilst keeping our distance of course.
National Trust, English heritage must be in similar position I guess.

The buses here are immaculate. Seats floors walls etc steam-cleaned after every shift and rarely any passengers. I have no qualms about using them in fact, Wednesday I plan on travelling to Cowdray Park, with a picnic if the weather holds.

I think Boris's speech was ambiguous. Living in Cumbria with the highest confirmed cases and a high death count key workers travel over the border to work, Does Scottish law now say they can no longer do this? Carlisle supermarket shelves are often empty of alcohol as people cross the border to buy cheaper alcohol in England. Visitors will be allowed to travel to Cumbria for exercise putting pressure on mountain rescue, hospitals etc. Who is going to police movement, our already stretched force? (most people caught & turned back are from the south 100 over bank holiday). Other counties of beauty will also suffer in this way and potentially be lock downed in 2-3 weeks time again loosing Summer trade. We rely on people being sensible very few are.

Sorry but I think he's living in cloud cuckoo land, he's telling us kids should return to school but how will they stay 2 metres apart? Probably because he went to private schools/nurseries. How the hell does he expect kids to stay 2 metres from there friends?

Jillybird, there is no point in taking years 11 and 13 back into school as their exams for this year have already been cancelled. One of my GSs should have been starting to take his GCSEs about now, so that cohort's grades will be calculated on their results in mocks and coursework. My GC in years 10 and 12, preparing respectively for GCSE and A-level next year, are missing out on vital work for which distance learning on line is a poor substitute. So, the years that should be first to be taken back are undoubtedly 10 and 12. 11 and 13, to all intents have already left.

Parts of speech were unclear and open to interpretation. My worry would be the interpretation could lead to rise in cases, as has been seen in Japan, Getmany and South Korea
