Right. Who will be the first person to admit to being bald?

Pretty close to it I'm afraid and very grateful for this thread. Thin hair runs in our family and mine has never been my crowning glory. Was told by a hairdresser 40 years ago that I had the thinnest hair he'd ever seen. Since the menopause it's been getting worse and for the past year everywhere I look there's hair; on my clothes, in the bath, on my desk/pillow etc. Getting thinner and not growing back. Hair on top is getting painfully non existent. Have stopped having lowlights put in as I felt grey/white hair would look better as you can see my scalp . The stress from my job hasn't helped recently but I'm retired now. I've tried rinsing in cold water. Used to take Nourkrin tablets but they're very expensive and can't afford them these days. Have had a FBC and nothing showed up [I keep hoping I've got an underactive thyrid but I haven't; the only woman in the country that actually wants a blood test to throw up something wrong ]. No matter how smart I look when I go out I know [ and, blowing my own trumpet here, I do scrub up pretty good for my age] I can never look good with no hair. Even my fringe is just a few whisps of hair now. Wear shades on my head in summer and a hat in the winter but I can't wear them all the time. Going to go to a wig place to see about toppers etc [it's getting that bad] because famous people wear wigs all the time and no one thinks that's silly. Short hair isn't an option either as it's so fine it just blows all over the palce [usually upwards]. Can't begin to say how much it's knocked my self confidence, and possibly one of the reasons why I retired. jo8; please don't always turn things into a joke that could hurt people [this is a plea from the heart actually].

Tegan I empathize, I too have considered a wig. I find keeping mine in a short pixie cut is the best option. I agree that blond or grey is best. I was advised of this by my hairdresser a few years ago.

My hairdresser has wanted to cut my hair short for years. What adds insult to injury is that I have to pay the same as people who take ten times longer to have their hair trimmed/coloured etc . I often find myself glancing at ladies older than myself that have hardly any hair on top and thinking 'that's me in a few years time'. Mind you, I stopped going to the hairdresser months ago [knowing I was going to stop work] but, in that time my fringe has hardly grown [if it has] and, when I brush it forward there is a huge parting in the middle. My doctor [who I worked for] used to pick the hair off my shoulders and say 'don't worry, you won't go completely bald'. I'm going with the Keith Richards look at the moment, though but my hair is so thin the bandana just slips off . Looking on the bright side, I'm saving a fortune in hairdressing costs ! Going to try one of those hairbands that look like plaits today [although I think they look too obvious. Then I could try the Minnie Mouse look. The possibilities are endless....

teganmy MIL had very thin hair she would try all the different lotions and potions she could find and always thought this new potion was the one that would make a difference, but sadly nothing ever did.
My MIL was very good at styling her own hair and after a visit to the hairdressers she would come in and redo it and I have to admit it always looked better after she had done it, she seemed to make it look thicker.
Your right all the stars wear wigs to alter the image they are looking for so why should it be looked at as a joke, if it can give you your confidence back give it a go,if I was in your position I would. {{{hugs}}}

Tegan my heart goes out to you because a friend of mine is almost bald and I am well aware how she feels about it. She has been wearing wigs for years and she feels so much better. I personally think that her wigs are the wrong colour, a very dark brown, but that is her choice. It is so unfair that it is inherited in your case and I can well understand why you want a medical condition to be the cause because then there would be a chance of treatment.

Tegan I'm lucky in the fact that I've been going to the same hairdresser for about 10yrs now and she doesn't charge me full price. I only have a wet cut. Blow dry is a pointless. I can be in and out of hairdressers in 15-20mins

It's a shame the blog is n't a little more helpful in itself. And that picture of obviously young and luscious hair doesn't do anything to cheer anyone up. We could have done without that.

I think the thinness of my hair at the front could be down to wearing one of those spiky brush type rollers at night. That and a lot of colouring in the past.

It shows up the most when I am in a bathroom that has a light directly over the basin. Can be worrying then.

Well, it helped me. It's always nice to feel you're not alone in something.

And also your comment wasn't nice; how do you know the blog writer isn't a member of gransnet, and what about people that may be having chemo at the moment? Actually, how about saying 'I'm sorry Tegan; that was a thoughtless comment to make'.

The Body Shop did a really good thickening shampoo, but they changed it recently and now it leaves your hair feeling claggy.
