Ingredients

70g (2 1/2 oz) margarine
85g (3oz) caster sugar
1 egg
1 dessertspoon golden syrup
115g (4oz) SR flour
1 tbsp of cocoa
1/2 tsp bicarb in 1/2 cup of milk
vanilla essence

Handy Hint

This is a friend's mother's recipe and is great for children holding a lightweight mixer with you. Black cherry jam in the middle when cold and chocolate spread on top. Low fat spread works. Very similar to Annakist's recipe but probably older.

Method

1. Mix everything together.
2. Put in lined 7" tin.
3. Bake for 35 mins at 160C (350F).

The 'easy and economical chocolate cake' is just that and delicious too. I had no dessert, with three quarters of an hour to go! Instead of panicking I hit Gransnet and found the chocolate cake. I bunged all the ingredients together and hey presto, the perfect sweet! Thanks a million!
