Marelli Peter Pan was a brand name. The wee bones that were put into collars would, with constant use, have a tendency to go out of shape. With that, one side of the collar would stick out at an angle, or worse, dig into the neck.

Marelli Wed 12-Sept-12 14:59:03

My liberty bodice had little rubber buttons and fastened down the front. My mother called it a Peter Pan - I think that was the make (?) Can anyone remember the wee 'bones' that were put in the collars of your school blouses to make them sit straight?

soop Wed 12-Sept-12 14:41:14

harri that's right. And, Jings, I remember the slots for stays or maybe they were reinforcements to keep the wearer from slouching. All such a long time ago...along with itchy navy blue knickers and sensible lisle stockings. hmm

Showers here between sunny spells, Bags Like the sound of bread and honey.

Mr soop very busy in the loft. Who'd have thought that drainage could be so exciting. grin

Bags Wed 12-Sept-12 14:12:08

Just staggering in with some bread and honey and a cup of tea. 'Zorsted' after more hedging before the showers come. I think I might have achey arms tomorrow. Hey ho.

[Slumps in corner with legs stretched out]

BTW, has anyone seen anything of jess lately?

harrigran Wed 12-Sept-12 13:39:04

Rubber buttons didn't break when the washing went through the mangle, unlike my dad's shirt buttons, they used to pop off frequently.

JO4 Wed 12-Sept-12 13:38:17

Yes I wore liberty bodices. They made the pile of clothes on the chair look so big. No wonder I never would get up in the mornings.

I seem to remember they had slots in them for putting bendy bone (?) strips in. A bit like "stays". Luckily, by the time I wore them, that had gone out of fashion and it was just for extra warmth.

Anagram Wed 12-Sept-12 13:37:31

No, mine were down the front.

harrigran Wed 12-Sept-12 13:36:31

If the rubber buttons were on the hem of the liberty bodice they were for attaching suspenders, to keep up those long woollen socks.

Anagram Wed 12-Sept-12 12:56:54

I wore them too! Those little rubber buttons....
I think they were just to keep you warm?

soop Wed 12-Sept-12 12:53:32

Notso I wore a liberty bodice as a child. It had a soft, snug lining and I seem to remember wee rubber buttons. What were they for? confused

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 12:48:03

soop thank you, that's such a nice thing to say.

Notsogrand Wed 12-Sept-12 12:44:15

Talk of Autumn and Ella's vests reminded me of liberty bodices grin

soop Wed 12-Sept-12 12:15:03

Nana You are lovely. smile

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 12:07:05

So peaceful today with only the one 2-year old grandson to look after. He made me smile just now trying to sing along to the Ballamory theme. Will be even better in twenty minutes when he goes down for his nap.

Ariadne Wed 12-Sept-12 11:51:24

Interesting to hear that I'm not alone in getting a bit hot now and then! Since the breast cancer and chemo etc, I took it for granted that that was it, and I'mm 66 too, but I still occasionally do the "Is it me or is it hot in here?" bit.

(Remember Fascinating Aida's song on their last album?)

soop Wed 12-Sept-12 11:47:03

Nellie grin
when...only a baby would do such a thing and be forgiven. smile
Ella it is strange to feel blistering hot all over ...with the exception of the tip on my nose, fingers and toes. When we visited the Science Museum, there was a body-scanner-type-thing...when anyone stood in front of it, the hot and cold areas showed up red and blue. My body image was a work of art and would have been so right for the Tate Modern!
Greatnan Bet you've had a super time with anno. Anyway, as you know, we're all here to keep you company. smile
About the little ginger cat...Mr soop startled him/her and didn't get a photo. He/she will return. Convinced it's the result of Rory's quest for a willing wifelet. The reason why I asked about little ginger's sex, is because I had been informed by an expert that all ginger cats were male. Must admit, that did seem very strange. There you go, I can be everso gullible. hmm

Littlenellie Wed 12-Sept-12 09:42:04

greatnan so did I aged 41 ,I used to think that's it all done now..huh,the past 3 years my head is like aturkish bath ,and totally detached from the rest of my blood supply, which stops at my bum which is always cold, down to my feet.

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 09:30:08

I think you should return your Winter Heating Allowance Ella! smile

Greatnan Wed 12-Sept-12 09:23:24

Thank you, nellie! Ella - I am sorry to tell you that I had a hysterectomy in 1989 and I am still getting hot flushes!

Littlenellie Wed 12-Sept-12 09:21:01

We will keep you company greatnan glad you and anno had a good time xx

Ella46 Wed 12-Sept-12 09:16:51

After a totally event free menopause, now at 66 I have been getting steadily hotter and hotter the last few months!
I fully expect to self combust around Bonfire night!

The bonus of course is that the heating hasn't been on for months!

Greatnan Wed 12-Sept-12 09:14:44

My flat is strangely quiet this morning! It was so nice to be able to chat for hours on our drives around the Alps - now it is back to 'chatting' on line.

Littlenellie Wed 12-Sept-12 09:12:47

Temps has dropped 10 degrees in Norfolk this morning....socks and boots methinks ...can some one tell me why in the midst of a raging hot flush why my feet are still freezing cold...if only my head and feet could change places grin

annodomini Wed 12-Sept-12 09:07:16

It's autumn when I put my sandals away and seek out my socks - in which case it's been autumn on and off for a good three months. grin

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 08:51:39

Distinct chill in the air and very autumnal when I let the chucks out at 6.00 pm. In fact Mimi (the old chuck) was still in nesting box.
