While I was at a village Community Police and Council meeting last night, my daughter was being attacked as she walked home from a self-help group with her friend. She was shot at close range by a BB (?) gun at least 5 times, in her thighs and lower back, as she turned away to protect herself. Apparently a BB gun is a gas-propelled pellet gun. The perpetrator wore a balaclava and demanded their bags. DD told him that they had no money on them and he just shot her. Just like that. Her friend was uninjured and was able to dial 999 as the attacker ran off, and when the police and ambulance arrived she was able to give what description she could, to them.
DD is in hospital, on an anti-biotic drip as the pellets could have been infected by his hands as he loaded the gun. 3 of the pellets will need to remain in her thighs as they are too deep to remove.
My DD has already had to deal with so much emotional stuff over the years, and just when she was attempting to get her life back on track by going to her self-help group this b.....d comes along and does this.
So....I really don't think I'm being unreasonable to want to have a private minute alone with him. One minute would be all I'd need. angry

so sad for you.

Marelli Sun 08-Sept-13 17:26:19

I think he'll go down, when.

Ariadne Sun 08-Sept-13 17:12:03

Oh no, Marelli! I am so sorry to hear that your DD has broken away from you again, after everything you went through. Shoulders here to cry / lean on.

whenim64 Sun 08-Sept-13 17:11:11

Oh, Marelli I'm sorry to hear that your daughter has parted from you again. I hope it's only temporary and the breach is soon healed. flowers

Adjournment for reports often means prison is being considered, otherwise they can stand the case down on the day for a quick assessment.

Marelli Sun 08-Sept-13 17:10:45

Thank you anno. Yes, I'm still in touch with them, but unfortunately I don't see any reconciliation with my daughter now. sad
I'm trying so hard not to let myself become a victim now, but as before I think I would do anything to get her back again.

Lona Sun 08-Sept-13 17:07:51

Marelli That is very sad for you, I'm so sorry and I hope your dd has a change of heart very soon flowers

annodomini Sun 08-Sept-13 16:57:10

Marelli, I'm so sad for you that this breach with your daughter has recurred. Are you still in touch with your granddaughter and GGS? I do hope so and that this will create a bridge with your daughter. flowers

The person who attacked my daughter in May this year has pleaded guilty to the offence. This means she doesn't have to appear in court and sentence has been 'deferred for reports'.
I'm so relieved for her that she doesn't have to appear, but some of you will know that she estranged herself from me for a number of years, allowing me back into her life when her grandson (my great-grandson) was born. She has broken away from me again, and I'm very, very upset, but just wanted you all to know the outcome, because you were so kind and supportive. It has been reported in the local press.

I hope they do, too, hummingbird. xx

hummingbird Mon 20-May-13 22:25:16

How absolutely awful, Marelli! Something like this will take a long time for all of you to get over, but you're strong and you'll be there for your daughter. Kindest thoughts and good wishes to you all. (And I hope they throw away the key!) flowers

Marelli Mon 20-May-13 22:16:58

Bless you flowers. We're trying to be quite philosophical about it, really. After the first shock of it all, it's really now just a case of waiting to see what happens when he goes to court. We're in an area that has the usual troubles such as drugs etc (what area doesn't?) but this is the first incident where this type of weapon has been used in such a way. I hope that this will mean that some sort of example will be made when he does receive a sentence.

Tegan Mon 20-May-13 22:16:04

Marelli; I've only just seen this thread. I'm so sorry to hear what happened and join you in your anger.

gracesmum Mon 20-May-13 22:06:42

{{Hugs }} to you both - such a dreadful thing to happen. flowers

Mishap Mon 20-May-13 22:05:09

So glad that he is in custody. I do hope that your daughter is able to get over this with your support.

Marelli Mon 20-May-13 21:56:56

Wheniwasyourage, thank you. My daughter is very quiet - doesn't seem to want to talk much about the attack, although I think it will be more likely that she's discussing it with her friends, especially the one who was with her at the time. The attacker is in custody and I believe that he had a 'preliminary hearing' last Friday. The police have been very good, our local Community PC (ex- CID) especially. My daughter is walking well, if carefully, but the medication she's been given is making her feel tired, she says - although I think this might be reaction to the whole thing.
I'm feeling much better than I did, thank you. He's a foul creature and I hope so very much that he receives the heaviest possible sentence. angrysad

Hallo, Marelli. I was just wondering how your daughter is, and of course, how you are. Hope all is going a bit better for you both. flowers

Marelli I am stunned and horrified having only just learnt of this horrible attack on your poor daughter. Thank goodness it wasn't any worse but it was certainly terrible. I do hope that she is feeling a little recovered - both physically and emotionally. I hope you too begin to feel better as she recovers. My thoughts are with you. flowers

harrigran Wed 15-May-13 00:36:52

I have just returned from holiday and seen your distressing news Marelli I add my disgust about this horrendous crime. I hope this excuse for a human being gets what he deserves.

Mishap Fri 10-May-13 21:38:36

It is so good that he has been caught and let us hope he gets a sentence that reflects the crime. I am glad that your DD is home again and hope that she can put this behind her over time with your support.

glassortwo Fri 10-May-13 21:00:58

marelli {{hugs}} I am glad DD is home, take the lead from her. xx

Marelli Fri 10-May-13 16:43:56

They've caught him, flower. He was in court this morning. I do so hope he doesn't get bail.

Flowerofthewest Fri 10-May-13 16:34:46

This is terrible, so sorry I hope she recovers well and can put this behind her. I'll join you if they catch him.

Marelli Fri 10-May-13 16:33:10

She got home last night, number. I've not been able to see or speak to her because her phone's been off, and I always read that as a message that she doesn't want to be bothered by anyone. I did contact DGD (she has her own house) who said that she'd phoned DD's friend 'J' who was involved in the attack but not injured. J was there with DD and so DGD was able to speak to her mum. She's very tired. I'm going to wait until other DGD gets home from work, (she still lives at home) then phone her. If her mum wants to talk she will, and if it's ok for me to pop up, I'll go tonight. She's just 15 minutes away on the bus. Must tread carefully and not overwhelm.

numberplease Fri 10-May-13 16:12:49

Is your daughter actually home now Marelli?

Marelli Fri 10-May-13 15:55:47

Hopefully, it will be even longer here.....though unlikely, I suppose.
I would like to see him standing at the bottom of a deep well, knee-deep in water, with rats swimming around in it. But that would be too good for him. angry
