To think the new Paddington bear lacks a certain something

The trailers are on TV. Is it me or does the celebrated bear lacks a certain cuddly quality. Rather a pointy nose and slender midriff for someone who is, essentially, a teddy bear?

Paddington Bear didn't wear wellies in the original books, it was only in the later animated tv series that they were introduced. This is a fact that has stuck in my mind for many years...confused

No wellies? I can just about cope with the lack of cuddle factor and intermittent wearing of the duffle coat, but no wellies! Next someone will tell me that marmalade sandwiches are unsuitable food for a bear.

Only seen the tv ad for the film, but Paddington looks very much as if he bites! Rupert Bear always looked slightly sinister too.

My grandsons loved the film so I shall probably watch it on dvd; didn't like the look of the trailer when it was on at the cinema but I'll give it a go.

Must ask DGS if he has seen it. At & he tends to be interested in things like Iron Man I'm afraid.

I loved the Paddington film. Friend I were disappointed he didn't have wellies. But it was a most enjoyable bit of lightness in an otherwise 'difficult' world. Just MY opinion.

Not getting at you, rosequartz Oh, I realised that, JessM

(funny how posts can come across as completely different to what you mean!)

I meant about the link - to be fair to JC and family and not suspect people of deleting adverse reports in the media - as if they would even if they could!

Just think, if I had thought of making Paddington Bears I could be rich by now!

Anya Mon 23-Mar-15 07:42:56

Don't you just love GN grin where else would I have found out about this?

JessM Mon 23-Mar-15 07:29:34

Not getting at you, rosequartz LOL but momma and poppa Clarkson for making lots of money without giving any to the author who created Paddington. Very-un-admirable. Loose ethical boundaries. That kind of thing!

rosequartz Sun 22-Mar-15 22:05:39

To be fair ! I did have a problem posting the link because two others I had saved about planting and pruning raspberries kept joining on to the beginning of it confused

Thank you.

Try again. hmm Not very admirable I'd say.

JessM Sun 22-Mar-15 21:09:00

suspicious... May have fallen prey to the ruling that you can get stuff removed from the internet if you don't like what it is saying...

rosequartz Sun 22-Mar-15 18:36:07

That's very odd, it was definitely there the other day now I cannot access it either.

hmm

rosequartz Sun 22-Mar-15 18:34:56

Sorry about the link. However, I think it said that JC's parents met Michael Bond and they must have come to an agreement because they all became friends.

JessM Sun 22-Mar-15 18:13:10

Link does not work - but looks like JCs mother was breaching Michael Bond's intellectual copyright. hmm

rosequartz Sat 21-Mar-15 15:41:45

That's what paid for him to go to public school hmm

The 'real' one!!! grin

Re Jeremy Clarkson's mother making toy bears....that might explain something...

rosequartz Sat 21-Mar-15 10:15:34

Anya how could you!

Not real indeed!

Did you know that Jeremy Clarkson's mother made Paddington Bears? Soft toy versions of the real one of course.

No, the film version does not look cuddly at all. And shouldn't he be a Peruvian Spectacled Bear?

Anya Sat 21-Mar-15 08:07:53

while why

Anya Sat 21-Mar-15 08:07:24

Must admit I never thought Rupert the Bear very appealing Jess and that's probably while - not tubby enough. I do like a tubby bear smile

JessM Sat 21-Mar-15 07:58:20

Must be the DVD they are advertising (doh) . He's still a scrawny and unappealing little bear though isn't he? To make them appealing they need to look like chubby little human babies.

Anya Sat 21-Mar-15 07:06:24

Don't get me wrong I'm all for 'the willing suspension of disbelief' but you can't criticise someone else's interpretation of a made-up characters can you?

Not all teddy bears are rotund.

wink

However, the duffle coat only making a 'guest appearance' is simply not on!

absent Fri 20-Mar-15 23:32:52

I note that the duffel coat makes only a guest appearance.

Ana Fri 20-Mar-15 23:18:11

A great many children thought the bear in the original books was real, Anya confused

Spoilsport Anya!
