I've often wonderful what time the last post is made and what time the next first post occurs.
Are the Gransnet forums open 24/7 ?

Mareli I'm sure there will be an app available which will allow you to download music to your phone. A guided meditation may help you relax enough to sleep.

Thanks, jingl, I'll have a scout around and see what I can find. Wonder if I can do anything on my smartphone, as I don't have an i-Pad?

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Aug-15 21:51:09

Tegan I find I can hear spoken word better with earphones shoved into my ears. Somehow it seems to go straight to my brain, without any outside interference! I do wonder though if it contributes to the beginnings of deafness I definitely have.

Marelli I listen to my audiobooks on a mini iPad. I use Apple in-ear earphones. (no sound leakage to disturb DH) Any spoken word seems to calm my brain down and lull me to sleep. Hope you find something that works for you.

jingl, I do read (for hours!) in bed, but when I'm in 'worry mode', can look at the same page for ages without taking it in (as is usual, of course.
I did try borrowing CDs from the library and using a wee portable player, but found the quality of the CD's was bad.I'm in bed nice and early tonight - and what am I doing???? I'm on here! grin

Tegan Wed 26-Aug-15 13:31:45

jingle; I don't know if it's just me but I can't listen to things using earphones. Wondered if anyone else has the same problem [makes my ears feel funny confused].

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Aug-15 11:47:47

Marelli have you trie audiobooks, using earphones? I have several that I will never hear the end of.

Tegan Wed 26-Aug-15 11:24:57

That's why I tend to fall asleep watching the telly these days [usually BBC4 but last night was watching a documentary I'd bought for someone and it had been passed back to me]; never happened to me when I was younger but, if I don't get to sleep straight away these days dark thoughts start appearing. Strangely enough; the more I'm enjoying a programme the more likely I am to nod off [and then have to watch it again another night; ad infinitum..]

Marelli Wed 26-Aug-15 04:19:36

Been awake since 1.30, so have had 2 hours sleep so far, tonight. Last night wasn't much better, but no doubt will catch up as the week goes on.
All fears and worries magnify once the wee small hours arrive....... hmm

rubylady Wed 26-Aug-15 03:01:51

Aha! Beat you all! It's going on for 3 am now and I'm just about thinking about bed. It is lovely at this time though, all quiet, I love it. Saying that I do try to sleep earlier but it won't happen. I only get about 5 hours when I do sleep so going to bed now, I will still be up for about half 8.

Night night (maybe) x

Judthepud2 Tue 25-Aug-15 20:50:31

Good idea, an out of hours thread! I often wander at night due to sleeplessness. It would be good to share.

Stansgran Tue 25-Aug-15 20:04:08

I was up at fivish but didn't want to post until mick had called the reveille. By then I'd spilt my coffe and shampooed the bit of the carpet.

BlackeyedSusan Tue 25-Aug-15 19:47:01

I would have been posting at 2.30 am last night if the police helicopter had stayed around much longer. No chance of sleep with that about. And I have just read the perimenopause info... would explain a few things.

Rosannie Fri 21-Aug-15 14:26:41

An all night thread would be good for all those of us who don't sleep well. Sometimes you just want to know that there is someone else out there!

Granny23 Fri 21-Aug-15 14:16:16

X posts, Tricia grin

Granny23 Fri 21-Aug-15 14:15:26

We used to have a thread specifically for 'night owls'. Being up in the night often with 'Restless leg', I was a regular contributor, along with other insomniacs and a variety of Gransnetters from other continents. Thanks to great medication I am no longer wandering around in the middle of the night but really valued the opportunity to chat when I needed it.

Perhaps time to start another 'Out of Hours' Thread?

TriciaF Fri 21-Aug-15 14:05:00

ps perhaps we should have an insomniacs thread.

TriciaF Fri 21-Aug-15 14:02:33

Some nights I have a problem sleeping so come down and make some toast and tea and go online.
On another forum that I belong to there used to be someone (male) who was an abrasive character, and worked in the antipodes so came online at about 2am and that was rather awkward.
That forum has a facility that you could see who else was online. I don't think Gransnet has that. Otherwise you could have some cosy chats smile

Tegan Fri 21-Aug-15 10:42:04

jingle/Grannyeggs gringringrin!

Rosannie Fri 21-Aug-15 10:38:30

Surely people don't boast on here!
It's very interesting to see such a variety of posting 'habits'.

Grannyeggs Fri 21-Aug-15 09:52:10

Well whoever it is jingle they won't be able to boast about it to the rest of us!!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 21-Aug-15 09:22:07

And I thought this was going to be a thread about who could stay alive the longest! [disappointed]

Grannyknot Fri 21-Aug-15 08:54:33

Morning! GN is "open all hours" as it is on t'internet.

I have a business conference call at 9 a.m. and will be in the "bed-office" - luckily it's not on Skype!

Anne58 Fri 21-Aug-15 08:50:43

It's happening again! Using AIBU! (Yes, I know it doesn't really matter)

absent Fri 21-Aug-15 07:27:27

Good Morning Vietnam UK! Gransnet is open all hours. (How I loved Ronny Barker!) I post at all sorts of hours that must seem very strange to UK Gransnetters (the majority) because I live in New Zealand – for those who don't know, that's a small group of relatively small islands on the edge of the world. When I lived in the UK, I also posted at odd hours because I don't sleep very well.

ninathenana Fri 21-Aug-15 06:46:32

I arrived about 6.15 this morning. I often post after midnight as I lay in bed with my Kindle before going to sleep
