1. Outrage...everything is outrageous now
2. Offence...everything is offensive and everyone takes offence
3. Like...as scattered in conversation

See you later (when taking leave of someone and NOT expecting to see them later at all)

Only (as in a sale, i,e, 'only £18,999)

I can't stand the current craze for saying 'do you know what' then saying what it was they thought. Its usually used argumentatively as far as I can see.

harrigran Fri 05-Feb-16 22:29:02

Innit, grossly irritating.

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 05-Feb-16 11:53:11

Hubby (popular choice on this thread!)

Missus (Ugh and grrrrrrrrrr)

Grub (just ugh)

Lavatory

Imperfect27 Fri 05-Feb-16 11:49:43

Loads of the above - and gillybob how funny! - and

With respect

But silly words I do like - mainly picked up from my children ...:

Fandabby

Bargainous

Meh!

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 05-Feb-16 10:52:18

I use so many of these words and phrases, so perhaps I should just stop talking. grin

No1gogo Fri 05-Feb-16 10:45:16

Well done Gillybob, your comments have made me smile, thanks for the giggle. I live in South Africa so lots of the sayings in England aren't used here, however some of my family in England do say LUSH, it really makes me squirm...

Sexual fluidity. ( Bi- sexual)

Ahh Bless!!!
I used to enjoy going to the hairdressers, now I just hate being continually blessed!

rascal Sat 23-Jan-16 20:41:55

I don't like indeed!

Jane10 Sat 23-Jan-16 19:58:53

I am horrified at increasing use of the word 'gotten'. It really grates on me. Its just so wrong. Why can't people just say 'become' instead?

Nelliemoser Sat 23-Jan-16 19:21:30

I want answers.
Going forward.
Trending.
Food which is "sat on a bed of (whatever)]
When English restaurants call rocket "Roquette".

Teenzy55 I also find "disabled toilet" really irritating. I get the urge to take out a felt tip pen and rewrite it.

watermeadow Sat 23-Jan-16 18:44:34

The indefinite article "a". Now widely pronounced "ay" in the media. David Cameron does it all the time.
"I had ay sandwich and ay coffee. Ay curry for dinner then ay walk with ay friend".

Wheniwasyourage Fri 22-Jan-16 19:52:26

Something "impacted people". No it didn't, it had an impact on them.

Atqui Fri 22-Jan-16 19:50:31

Stunning.

Around instead of about

tinaf1 Fri 22-Jan-16 19:38:12

In restaurants jus what is jus hmm

Deedaa Fri 22-Jan-16 18:47:54

I hate the television ads that tell you something is three nine nine or four two five. What's wrong with saying "It's three hundred and ninety nine pounds" or "It's four hundred and twenty five pounds"?

Greyduster Fri 22-Jan-16 16:11:51

I'm with merlot on 'so...'. It irritates me beyond measure, especially when it drops from the mouths of seasoned academics and other educated people who should know better.

LullyDully Fri 22-Jan-16 16:03:51

Wow

morethan2 Fri 22-Jan-16 09:29:45

Phenomenal ....everything is on according to QVC.

queenMab99 Thu 21-Jan-16 22:32:37

'To be honest' although to be honest I love the word GUSSET

bobbinwinder Mon 23-Nov-15 00:01:48

does that make sense? at the end of every sentence........ drives me nuts

Nannanoo Fri 20-Nov-15 21:17:22

'Know what I mean?' said after every statement. Drives me potty!

apricot Fri 20-Nov-15 20:16:55

So, ( beginning every answer)
"That's a very interesting question" ( heard constantly in radio interviews)
Pronouncing "a" as "aye". David Cameron does this ALL THE TIME. I'm waiting to hear that he had aye sandwich for lunch and aye coffee then aye fag and aye look at the Daily Mail.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 20-Nov-15 18:46:11

Oh, I love these!

Fare changes - they're going up, so just say so!

"The new ... will cost four times less than the old one." NO!! It will cost a quarter of the previous price!!! Something was described as "a hundred times less" in the paper yesterday. What's wrong with "a hundredth" or even 1%?

My name is wheniwasyourage and I am a pedant.
