I can't stand the current craze for saying 'do you know what' then saying what it was they thought. Its usually used argumentatively as far as I can see.

I hate the television ads that tell you something is three nine nine or four two five. What's wrong with saying "It's three hundred and ninety nine pounds" or "It's four hundred and twenty five pounds"?

I'm with merlot on 'so...'. It irritates me beyond measure, especially when it drops from the mouths of seasoned academics and other educated people who should know better.
