Why do weather forecasters feel they need to give the forecast in such a dramatic way? I just watched the one on countryfile...and Ive honestly no idea what the weeks weather is going to bring....thought she was doing an audition for a drama production....aaaagh!!!!

I also dont like to be told to...wrap up warm!....?

Presumably that was pre-Michael Fish, grandmasue grin

My late mum used to prefer the BBC weather forecast because she thought they always predicted better weather!

Mauriherb exactly I'm a fellow hayfever sufferer, don't care about pollen count my body tells me if it's high.

I hate the way some forecasters deliver bad weather with a smile, I'm not smiling at the thought of rain & high winds

Mauriherb Mon 03-Apr-17 12:53:36

Being a hayfever sufferer I can't understand why the weather forecasters tell us about the pollen count. If you don't suffer then you don't want to know, and if you do suffer then, trust me, you don't need a weather forecaster to tell you that the pollen count is high !

Oh nannypiano I'm glad I'm not the only one! ! Whenever they say "wall to wall sunshine " I want to shout "what walls, where?" !

eGJ Mon 03-Apr-17 12:41:29

Has anyone seen the Italian weather forecast? It is presented by military men in uniform - very serious, but if they handcuffed them they would be lost!! grin

nannypiano Mon 03-Apr-17 12:40:46

"If only they would stop saying wall to wall sun" I find it so annoying . Glad to get that off my chest at last. Does it annoy anyone else or just me?

Thomas I mean sorry I should have said.

sweetcakes Mon 03-Apr-17 12:27:32

Maybe I'm the only one or confusing him with another but when I see him I think he looks like a muppet I think its the eyes!

It's funny, I'm fairly interested in the weather but I can't seem to pay attention to the forecast. Afterwards I can't recall very much of what they said. IMO they spend too long telling us what it has been like before the important bit.
At school we learnt about cold, warm and occluded fronts, low and high pressure. The teacher said that then we'd not have to listen to the entire forecast as we would know about it just by looking at the diagram.
Is my lack of attention that teacher's influence from beyond the grave?

*Anya *you seem to go on a lot of threads just to vent your anger/frustration with life?!!!...

I'm officially in love with Tomasz Schafernaker. DH shouts to me that it's "my boyfriend", if I'm not in the room...
Looking out of the window if often a better way of guessing the weather for the day; "longer range" is usually useful on the BBC.
But I have to agree with OP, "weather" has taken a turn for the worse with all the silly phrases. DH and I fall about laughing picking up the idiotic comments.

KatyK Mon 03-Apr-17 11:31:52

Tomasz is cute smile

Parklife1 Mon 03-Apr-17 11:20:22

I like our Simon Parkin on Meridian

CardiffJaguar Mon 03-Apr-17 11:09:05

It is also the use of so many superfluous words: 'and' becomes 'and also', which always makes me wince. There are so many examples. Someone ought to tell them to get the forecast out in 10 seconds which might make them really think about what they are going to say.

Funnygran Mon 03-Apr-17 11:06:27

Liam Dutton who is the weather man at the end of the Channel 4 news at 7 is a lovely presenter and there are no over the top gestures. I could take him home!

BlueBelle Mon 03-Apr-17 11:03:05

I don't know who Thomas whatsit is perhaps I don't pay enough attention I too don't like all the hand gestures ...they are doing what that little man who jumped around the map until he fell in did its silly I like Carol as she is interesting without being bizarre

PRINTMISS Mon 03-Apr-17 10:56:19

I quite like the 'dramatics' for the weather forecast. It is really quite boring and difficult to make interesting, when sometimes it is the same thing day after day.

maddyone Mon 03-Apr-17 10:40:55

Whenever Tomasz Schafernaker does the weather report, my husband comments 'I used to teach him.'
Maybe it's his claim to fame gringringrin

Caro1954 Mon 03-Apr-17 10:40:17

Carol IS lovely but I ageee that some of the others are annoying. They don't annoy me as much as some of the news readers (Fiona Bruce)/foreign correspondents - I want the facts, not their opinions which are all too obvious in their delivery.

Sheilasue Mon 03-Apr-17 10:17:57

Carol is lovely.

Terrystred Mon 03-Apr-17 10:12:36

Thanks JackyB - hadn't seen that before. V funny!

merlotgran Mon 03-Apr-17 10:11:17

Whenever Tomasz Schafernaker does the weather, DH, without fail comments, 'I bet he's got a Tracker Cracker mortgage?

It was funny the first time hmm

Queens are usually female or of the drag variety!

Picky? Or prefer a more considered choice of phrase perhaps.
