Rehousing issue for Grenfell Towers survivors

I don't understand why many of the families are refusing the temporary housing they are being offered. One family was on TV saying how unhappy they were in their hotel but had turned down the offer of a flat. Of course they are still shocked and coming to terms with things but I would have thought it would be easier to move on in a place of your own rather than a hotel.

Did anyone else know that Tesco was into housebuilding?

durhamjen Sun 27-Aug-17 14:29:17

I hope this group is looked into in the enquiry.

They don't appear to have been doing their job.

I am sure I remember the government saying it would help with costs.

How does Brexit affect the pressure on housing?

loopyloo Fri 25-Aug-17 11:34:40

There are some things that are intrinsically bad ideas. Residential tower blocks is one, Building a runway for Heathrow over the M25 is another.
The pressure on housing is horrendous and was one of the reasons for the Brexit vote.

A compilation of videos about Grenfell Tower and what is or is not happening.

Angry scenes at this meeting.

It took Mayhem a long time to see sense about this.

A woman from the tower block was interviewed this morning, she complained they have fire wardens but they don't speak English

durhamjen Thu 10-Aug-17 23:41:02

Even more problems in tower blocks in London.

Anniebach Wed 09-Aug-17 18:00:33

If there will be charges over the cladding on the tower there every council must be charged for using the same cladding.

Anniebach Wed 09-Aug-17 17:57:01

How can the DPP say what the sentence will be when 1. There has yet been no charges. 2. A jury would have to return a guilty verdict. 3. The judge will decide the punishment

Jalima1108 Wed 09-Aug-17 17:35:23

There has to be culpability
The buck must stop somewhere

Sounds like you are all in agreement for once.

You know, your posts could really do with a few 'socially aware' lessons durhamjen ......then you may find out how to talk to people without giving offence, it seems to be a failing of yours.

Some people are really sick.

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 15:50:07

Sorry, stating.

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 15:49:50

Staing the bleeding obvious in your first sentence , roses.

rosesarered Wed 09-Aug-17 14:00:47

There has to be culpability if there is culpability......it will come out.
The local council should have addressed concerns by residents over things like piled up rubbish in stairwells and so on, but if as seems likely now, they find that the cladding was used by councils and others up and down the country and that it met with fire safety requirements at the time then I don't see anybody being prosecuted.
Testing being carried out now on cladding is much more stringent.

durhamjen Wed 09-Aug-17 12:11:15

Yes, it is. At last the DPP has said that there might be prosecutions of individuals.
The buck must stop somewhere.

That's good news isn't it. There has to be culpability and I hope that knowing anyone charged and found guilty being justly dealt with will bring some peace to the victims of this terrible tragedy. Thanks for the link dj.

This man bought houses in his children's names in London. He has been disqualified from being Prime Minister of Pakistan. His brother has been elected as the new one.
I wonder how many houses he will have been found to own.

durhamjen Thu 03-Aug-17 19:33:09

English Votes for English Laws.
In parliament the Scottish, Irish and the Welsh are not allowed to vote on laws that only concern the English.

Smithy Thu 03-Aug-17 19:31:06

What's EVEL - sorry for my ignorance. I am interested in the topic but not knowledgeable with regard to housing

durhamjen Thu 03-Aug-17 19:16:43

We do try, paddyann. We didn't want EVEL either. We'd much rather have all the support we can get from the other parts of the UK.
But look how that turned out with the DUP.
