Rehousing issue for Grenfell Towers survivors

I don't understand why many of the families are refusing the temporary housing they are being offered. One family was on TV saying how unhappy they were in their hotel but had turned down the offer of a flat. Of course they are still shocked and coming to terms with things but I would have thought it would be easier to move on in a place of your own rather than a hotel.

"Even residents of grenfell have mobiles ? Putting them down again Dj, needing to fit them into your description of imigrants dependant on benefits? "

I wasn't putting them down, Annie. YOU were.
You asked how the firemen let them know to stay in the flats; did they climb up and tell them or use loudspeakers.

No, the residents used their mobiles to phone the fire brigade.

I wish you could stop being quite so childish. You are really showing yourself up on this thread.

Rather than trying to score points off me, it would be better if you actually thought about the residents of Grenfell.

If we have moved on from the seventies how come the far left here have said the unions must be given back the power they had pre thatcher years? Pre thatcher years was the Wilson and Callaghan governments, oh dear

Anniebach Sat 30-Sept-17 17:13:19

Corbyn is preaching the politics of the forties, that's moving I'm? Your knowledge of the party is very weak Dj, suppose this explains why you have been taken in by Corbyn

durhamjen Sat 30-Sept-17 13:41:18

Society has moved on since then, Annie. A shame you can't.

Anniebach Sat 30-Sept-17 13:40:00

Social housing is political, it is not the work of unions to bring down a government, think back to the damage they did to Wilsons and Callahagns governments, if you were in the party then

All the incidents of combustible cladding being put on high rise flats that I can find have been put on since 2010.

Among those interviewed were an accountant, IT specialist, beauty salon owner , hospital porter

Social housing is political.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-grenfell-tower-fire-social-housing-rescue-package-points-john-healey-homes-a7974916.html

The number of social housing units being built has fallen by 97% since 2010.

Even residents of Grenfell have mobiles, Annie.

The message was on the back of their doors as well ---in case of fire, etc.

Anniebach Sat 30-Sept-17 13:01:02

There was an interview with residents on the 21st floor Bags, it was on Newsnight. I have no idea how they were told to stay in their flats, did the firemen use loudspeakers or climb up to the residents.

No surprise the union is using this tragedy for political motives

durhamjen Sat 30-Sept-17 12:54:42

"Mr Wrack said: “For me it is a national political scandal. It is the sort of scandal on which governments should fall, by the way.

“Any genuine inquiry wouldn’t just be asking firefighters to come and give evidence, as they will. They would be asking government ministers.

“They would be instructing government ministers to come and give evidence and be cross-examined about what decision they took, who gave them the advice, why did they take advice and not that advice and who signed off the change in the regulations.” "

The fire service advice to stay put occurred to me too, annie.

Anniebach Sat 30-Sept-17 12:52:27

As residents have said they were told not to try to leave the building but stay in their flats not knowing there was not the equipment to reach the top flats can it be the union do not want questions ?

Baggs Sat 30-Sept-17 12:37:19

Even if the inquiry is a "stitch-up" according to the FBU, what is a boycott of it supposed to achieve?

Fire Brigade Union not prepared to wait until the enquiry.

Didn't they claim Corbyn was responsible for the N I peace talks ? Or was that vox pox? Often difficult to tell the difference in these far left bloggers

durhamjen Sat 30-Sept-17 00:48:22

Theresa May doesn't seem to know what's going on at Kensington and Chelsea.

At least the DWP has seen sense here.

Only a council like Kensington and Chelsea would think of using a loophole to stop them fulfilling their obligations.

I thought you weren't getting involved with the discussions. I thought you were waiting for the inquiry.

Anniebach Thu 28-Sept-17 08:03:10

I watched Newsnight last night on people from the tower, how different to the residents portrayed on this the thread. Here we read of underprivalaged immigrants, placed in the tower by a brutal white middle class council.

Some residenents have lived there over twenty years, flats were light and airy, residents from different walks of life , professional and manual workers . nothing like the people described in this thread, the programme gave the residents dignity and respect.

This is a very interesting interview with Emma Dent Coad about Kensington and what went wrong, and what has been done right there.
