TV sound

Boots on the other foot in our house I'm afraid. We've had several surround sound systems over the years but I hated the wires and the fact that they never worked properly. Last year I invested in a sound bar - one big speaker on the floor out of sight and the bar in front of the tv so no trailing wires and a simple remote control. I don't put it on most of the time but do love it for films - I don't think my OH is that bothered and the cats definitely don't like it

Clarity is what we require. Have a sound box but haven’t found this helps a great deal with speech. Subtitles are always on if they are available. It would help if the programme makers did away with obtrusive background music and actors returned to clear projected speech instead of so called “natural” speech. But then I am old and out of it I suppose!

No Sainsburys but we'd have got it from Aldi if they'd had them at the time lol

Luckgirl commiserations...and possibly feel sorry for neighbours if anyone has a TV with a booming sound system.

My upstairs neighbour has one, so I have taken to watching my own tv or dvd's on lap top, with headphones on.

A low point a few months ago, my neighbour fell asleep after 1am with the booming sound of an action channel on. 3 am passed, I tried to get an answer at his door.

At 4am he woke up and turned it off.

We have TVs and recorders that I can not operate and suspect instructions are in DH's own filing system. I watch programmes that DH has recorded for me.
When did TVs become so complicated that you needed an electronices degree to operate them ?

Most decent radios have an audio input socket that a television can be linked to for improved sound without all the high tech stuff.

I feel,your pain Luckygirl? In a moment of madness fuelled by an unexpected bonus maybe 10 years ago I bought Mr C a complicated sound system thingy from a specialist local store. They installed it, gave a demonstration while I was safely at work. When we had problems they returned and sorted them. Then we moved. No nice local store, no helpful magician beamed in to fix things. If it works it’s pure luck. I have no idea how to operate it. The instruction book runs into far too many pages. Mr C sighs and scratches his head a lot, sometimes he overcomes, sometimes gloom descends. I love your plan b Cherryhatrick I may try it tomorrow.

We hVe a similar system with 5 speakers all round our living room. Hate it. would rather use subtitles. Am planning to unplug the soeakers one by one and hope it goes unnoticed.

We have a sound bar that I tend to ignore and DH uses. The only problem is that once the sound bar is on then you can't use the ordinary remote to alter the sound. There are two problems with the sound bar remote. Firstly I can rarely find it and secondly if I do I can't work out how to use it

Plan A: Find the instruction book and teach yourself how to adjust it.

Plan B: Unplug it from the TV and fill the socket with Araldite

PS If he has it set through the speakers it is very hard to get the TV reset to normal. Grrr!
