Could anyone help here - some long serving and very interesting members seem to have just vanished. How did that happen. DJ, GGMK2 and WW. Where? and Why?

The very idea that GNHQ is somehow being influenced by shady people, who are also influencing the BBC would be funny except it isn't.
I'm watching Channel 4 news as I type (so no doubt I'll make errors). Ch4 is my go to news channel, it's so much better than any other news channel imo. I suspect because it simply focusses on the news of the day and is a once a day news programme. The BBC now has poor news coverage, regurgitating the same brief news coverage endlessly. CH4 analysis and its great journalists makes it the business so far as I'm concerned.

lemongrove, you clearly wrote

'They chose to leave ' - so it is fair to ask how you can ascertain this, apart from the one who did say goodbye.

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 18:53:53

jura, left the politics thread , not the forum, and I certaintly will not name anyone

lemongrove Tue 10-Apr-18 18:34:26

I haven’t seen any threads recently at all about ‘ how marvellous the government is’ ( although compared to Corbyn....)
And none about the DM either.confused

loopyloo Tue 10-Apr-18 18:08:54

Well I have seen very few posts about how brilliant the government is and how good the DM is. I must be reading the wrong threads.

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 18:08:41

Geri- I don't really need the fluffy stuff- so GN would lose all its attraction and interest for me.

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 18:07:49

ah thanks, as said, been busy and had not seen that post mostly.

Annie- how do you know others have left - could you please share your info- thanks.

Stirring - pulled - hmm why?

Gerispringer Tue 10-Apr-18 18:01:56

I used to like the political threads but I don’t read the ones that are just Corbyn bashing or how marvellous our government and the daily Mail is, as it just gets so repetitive. I miss some of the better informed contributors who seem to have disappeared. Maybe I’ll just stick to the fluffy non controversial threads.

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 17:23:53

We know ww chose to leave, I just hope Dj is well

mostlyharmless Tue 10-Apr-18 17:15:16

Whitewave did say goodbye
....... So goodbye to those folk who I have enjoyed reading.......
5th April on the controversial thread.

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 17:06:16

Well yes- but then some will make virulent attacks on them to which they can't respond. And they will be accused of 'flouncing to attract attention'.

Sadly we can't ask them- as they are no longer contactable by pm. But yes, I do wish them well, and miss their knowlegeable input and well researched links. I live abroad, and I do not have anyone here to exchange info and opinions about political issues in the UK- despite being directly affected by them, and our family and friends too.

Got plenty of people here for a good chinwag, coffee, glass of wine, meal, walk, visit - etc, so it is not what attracts me to GN.

loopyloo Tue 10-Apr-18 16:58:36

I suppose it would be nice if people said goodbye when they left and gave a reason. Is the term used 'ghosting? ' It would be good if we did know why they left, but also might be sad if they were ill or worse. We wish them well.

annsixty Tue 10-Apr-18 16:30:44

I won't know who has been insulted and who has left as I never get involved in political threads, and now I know exactly why.
However I do miss PRINTMISS and Imperfect and Swanny who frequented the kitchen and it slightly niggles me that we will never know why they left.
There are of course others further back especially a couple from my neck of the woods and I do wonder about them too.

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 16:04:11

Agree Anno- although Brexit has never been discussed before ;)

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 16:01:15

drawer draw

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 16:00:46

Maybe Farage and BoJo are better TV, drawer more viewers because they have greater entertainment value, than Corbyn. Had you considered that, jura?

Yes, I am being cynical.

annodomini Tue 10-Apr-18 15:48:10

I have been on Gransnet almost from the very beginning but now I don't post often and the reason for this is that many topics broached on new threads have been discussed over the past seven years probably more than once, though new members are not to know this and shouldn't be put off introducing topics that interest them. Please understand that I am not complaining. It's inevitable that the same issues recur time after time.

lemongrove Tue 10-Apr-18 15:31:23

They chose to leave humpty so up to them.
For all we know they may be back next week.

lemongrove Tue 10-Apr-18 15:30:27

jura2....I think you are getting very close to stirring things with your comments.
I expect this thread will soon be pulled.

humptydumpty Tue 10-Apr-18 15:29:43

Still their voices will be sadly missed; even, I hope, by people who don't share their political views. It will be a sad day if GN becomes a forum only for discussions between like-minded people.

lemongrove Tue 10-Apr-18 15:27:31

Kitty yes, I think it does!
As for the posters who left being attacked personally, not at all, only the content of their posts. They were all extremely
‘Robust’ and active on the political threads for years, they are not ‘victims’ so let us not pretend otherwise.

mostlyharmless Tue 10-Apr-18 15:26:53

Severely provoked by insults kitty.

kittylester Tue 10-Apr-18 15:13:50

mostlyharmless, does being 'severely provoked' include merely having a differing opinion?

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:53:46

Oh yes, and invited again and again on Question Time and other programmes. Same for BoJO- who seems to put his foot in it and lie non -stop and is still - Foreign Secretary- the job requiring the most agile and sensitive, clever diplomatic skills (sad )

kittylester Tue 10-Apr-18 14:53:00

Annie grin

Jura on what do you base that assertion?

The members mentioned were 'prominent' on certain threads and were the reason that I didn't go on those threads much. In my mind they then became much less 'prominent' because I wasn't seeing their names so much.

Baggs makes a good point. And, imo, GN will never be right wing but could very easily be to the right of Jeremy Corbyn.

I do not have the time or the inclination to do much reading and research for my views but feel I am entitled to take a view on anything political based on my knowledge and experiences without derogatory, passive/aggressive remarks being passed.
