Could anyone help here - some long serving and very interesting members seem to have just vanished. How did that happen. DJ, GGMK2 and WW. Where? and Why?

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:52:01

Difficult to check with those posters, as it is no longer possible to ask them as it is not possible to send them pms.

I clearly remember posts saying something like 'if you support JC and refuse to believe he is anti-semite- then you possibly are one- or words to that effect. Which is non-sense, unpleasant and libel/accusatory in my book.

Whether their disappearance is linked to this- as said, difficult to know. Been busy like you, visitors, etc - so not been much on GN over Easter. Bizarre.

Tegan2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:49:11

I'm not a fan of Corbyn; in fact, I don't trust him at all. But I don't understand why the news media attack him endlessly when that lying scumbag Farage gets away [media wise] with everything he does...

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:46:22

I agree that anti-Semitism and being opposed to actoins by the Israeli government are separate issues. I don't recall seeing any confusion of those ideas on GN.

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:43:45

That was answering your previous post, jura.

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:42:57

Only HQ will be able to answer that with actual fact, jura. Not that they will—quite rightly.

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:42:27

Baggs too, I am not enamoured with JC at all- I am indeed furious at his sitting on the fence re Brexit- and not seeing that it will mostly affect those who is supposed to help.

It does seem that many who refused to say that JC is anti-semite, or supports those in LB who are or seem to be - were accused, directly or indirectly, of being anti-semites themselves. I am 100% NOT anti-semite, but 100% against the illegal occupation of parts of Palestine and the violence and injustice against Palestinians. TWO absolutely and totally separate issues.

If anyone accused me of being anti-semite - I would certainly object strongly and ask GN moderators to stop the accusers (if it is what has happened??? perhaps).

mostlyharmless Tue 10-Apr-18 14:41:17

Absolutely tegan. The posters who have left did not make personal attacks unless severely provoked.
They argued with facts and references not with insults

jura2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:36:43

Baggs: 'I don't think GN moderators moderate political opinion at all. They are only there to moderate (delete) personal attacks on other posters.'

... from what I can gather now- it seems that the personal attacks were towards those that seem to have left - not t'other way round. Or???

Elrel Tue 10-Apr-18 14:34:30

Phoenix - You certainly deserve your name having risen from the ashes of an unkind sneaky personal attack, long may you continue to fly!flowers

grannyactivist Tue 10-Apr-18 14:25:42

I think that if a few posters changed names I might possibly rumble them because they have a very distinctive style, but overall I get to the end of a thread and can barely remember who said what. I also don't always notice who hasn't posted because there are so many threads and I don't read them all. It was easier in the beginning because there were fewer of us and it wasn't too hard to keep track, but now I often find it hard to put a 'personality' to a poster as I get too mixed up. blush

Anniebach Tue 10-Apr-18 14:19:30

Just vivid imaginations,

saying a politician is a hypocrite isn't hate, it's an opinion based on facts.

I still, post on the politics thread , still centre left, still a remainer , but I am not a prominent member , I know my place ?

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:18:32

OK, thanks, tegan.

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:18:10

I think perhaps that anoyone who doesn't seem to be enamoured of Jeremy Corbyn's political position is now regarded as right wing. I suppose, relative to him, they might be, but that doesn't make them actually right-wing on the full scale.

Tegan2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:16:58

...that was in reply to mostlyharmless, by the way....

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:16:41

tegan, ?

Tegan2 Tue 10-Apr-18 14:15:56

Like the BBC sad.....you mean....

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:15:24

mostlyh, I don't think GN moderators moderate political opinion at all. They are only there to moderate (delete) personal attacks on other posters.

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:13:31

Not only has the political centre of gravity on GN swung to the right, but it is also now markedly pro-brexit.

Really? Or have the definitions of right, left and centrist all moved? I haven't noticed a pro-Brexit slant on GN.

mostlyharmless Tue 10-Apr-18 14:10:01

I agree varian. It could be thought that right wing posters have repeatedly complained to GN moderators.
There was a suggestion by WW that the moderators sided with the louder right wing posters.
I think it's important that we are reassured that the moderators are neutral.

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:09:38

Phoenix, I am totally amazed anyone could do such a thing. How spiteful, even if you 100% disagree with anyone. However, I hate the thought of members speculating on who it could be, without that person bein able to defend themselves- I must say. Yes, so glad you are still here.

Well said, jura. Speculating about another's possible spitefulness is also spiteful because it is sowing a seed idea unfairly.

Baggs Tue 10-Apr-18 14:06:02

Do the 'prominent members' only like to converse with like minded people?

This was said quite a few times by at least one of those prominent members, I seem to remember.

humptydumpty Tue 10-Apr-18 13:29:30

Hear, hear varian.

varian Tue 10-Apr-18 13:21:00

I agree humptydumpty. They were all prolific posters and their opinions were often supported by evidence. I really appreciated the links. I did not always agree with them but I can't help noticing that they were all ardent Remainers, as so many of us still are.

Not only has the political centre of gravity on GN swung to the right, but it is also now markedly pro-brexit. Unlike the posters who have disappeared the brexiteers rarely put forward any evidence to back their convictions.

The GN politics forum is poorer without DJ, GG and WW. It is just as well I am not a conspiracy theorist.

humptydumpty Tue 10-Apr-18 13:10:01

Personally I am sorry that the 3 posters named in the OP have gone; they were all left-of-centre and the political centre of gravity on MN has now moved towards the right, not my natural home...

trisher Tue 10-Apr-18 13:06:15

You shoud know Annie your hate is often expressed in your posts.
