I saw some dress patterns at a very large craft store today at half price and was tempted (for about three minutes).

I always would prefer to think that in an emergency I would see that my children however old had put on their oxygen masks and life jackets properly and not left it to someone else. Travelling to Geneva on easyJet there were often school parties visiting the Hadron collider . As the plane turns left to head down lake Geneva to the airport there is often a meeting of two winds and can be bumpy. Sitting next to teens I've had to reassure them . Even those who've flown often. Never enough teachers on school trips.

When her children are older ... and let’s face it that time comes around so quickly when they become adults .. they will feel pretty bad ... she lives in cloud cuckoo land if you ask me ... no respect for them ... what If the plane was in difficulties ? God I’d want my babies with me children or adult ! It’s not normal .. where are her motherly instincts ? .. I’m totally baffled .... the press do skew things mostly but there is no excuse for pushing your children away on an airplane ! ......children need respect shown .. if they cant feel good enough to be with their parents , surely that will set them up for poor self esteem ... grrrrr ..

Well good for her not giving a toss. I would not either, my children when they were younger, my rules.

talking about envy does not necessarily mean in the financial sense, it could also mean envy tha5 she is willing to do such a thing and tell everyone! And probably doesn’t care a toss what others thinks.

I can't see the problem myself. Her children her rules. Does everyone parent children the same?
What's it to do with anyone else anyway, at 10 and twelve they are old enough to behave. She also said if there are any problems to get her.
Some kids who sit with their parents are badly behaved too. I think she is trying to instill the value of hard work. She has earned the right to go in business class. Good for her.

I cannot see that travelling 1st or Business class with your parents gives children a sense of entitlement. A sense of entitlement is bred in the home atmosphere and home attitudes.

Is she being more pathetic to get her name in the papers to promote something? Other so called celebs have courted controversy but had back up plan to get their names in papers to keep profile high

I've always flown First Class, so has DH, DS, DDiL (since joining our family) and now DGS does the same.
We're very aware that as a baby/toddler he could disturb other First Class passengers, so always travel with lots of things to amuse him, and with all four adults to occupy him he's no problem at all.
However, I think Kirsty is completely wrong making the excuse that she doesn't want her boys growing up with a sense of 'entitlement'. Our DS has no sense of entitlement as he is completely aware that we worked very hard for what we have. DGS is also being raised to know that if you want it, you have to work for it.
I honestly don't know why there's such a fuss being made about it anyway, it's not as though Business Class is anything particularly special. I once looked into a Business Class lounge, just for the sake of comparison, I was singularly unimpressed, I'll stick with First Class please!

I watch too many crash investigation programs. I would want to be near them in case the plane goes down.

Gillybob, I don’t think you’re strange at all. What I think is (and it’s only my opinion!) that everyone is entitled to their own views about child rearing. What I do find strange is that people seem to be saying that KA falls down in parenting skills in other ways - or have I missed something?

It is very old fashioned and 'old money'. Vera Brittain described, how in the late 19th/early 20th century, her father travelled 1st class and her mother, her brother and she travelled 2nd. Then, of course, if your children have a nanny, nanny and children travel second class.

As for Gordon Ramsay saying his children will not appreciate the food and will be on their ipads all the time. That is in his control. He, of all people, should have brought them up to appreciate good cooking and not to be glued to their screens all the time.

When I travel with my DGC, we spend most of the journey chatting.

Well I must be strange. To me a family holiday is just that, a family holiday where we would have travelled together.

I agree a family holiday doesn't mean being "closeted together" SueDonim but this was the flight, the beginning of the holiday.

We are all different I suppose but I wouldn't have dreamt of deliberately booking seperate areas in the plane for my children and myself. its just seems so wrong to me.

Plenty of people put their children into holiday clubs at hotels when on family holidays. Shall we condemn them, too?

A family holiday doesn't mean being closeted with your relatives for two weeks solid. It's well known that arguments break out amongst holidaying families due to being in too close proximity with each other for too long.

My youngest child never speaks to anyone when travelling. When it's just been the two of us on a flight I've had no one to talk to for ten hours and resorted to chatting to cabin crew!

its a tough one this.....on the one hand I like her because her bottom is as big as mine....on the other she is a living example of very little talent and a lot of privilege taking someone far.
