What I don't get is when people - usually a fair bit younger than me but isn't everybody? - say OMG. I mean they actually say "Oh Em Gee". And "I heart (this/that/whatever)". So OMG is a text abbreviation that is used verbally, and the word 'heart' is used verbally in place of 'love', simply because the heart symbol is used to represents it

I grew up with FHB and passed it on to my three DD who all use it too, for when when non-family guests are present and not enough to go round. It’s opposite in cases of over-provision was PMO - plenty more outside.

FHB = Fusarium Head Blight

I have no idea what FHB (ASOGN) means - but MG, it could be because ILMGA or LMM (lost my marbles).

I don't mind other people using acronyms, but somehow I can rarely bring myself to use them. FHB in our household was always Family Hold Back; a necessary rule when I often had a family of six to prepare meals for, would do food for eight 'just in case' and still end up feeding ten!

Much worse than LOL (in my opinion, anyway) are ROFL and ROFLMAO.

I now enjoy LOL and especially LTB.
David Cameron evidently put LOL on the end of a text he sent to Rebekah Wade in the midst of all the controversy. He thought it meant lots of love .... That man eh, he thought a lot of things and as my grannie would have said "well, you know what 'thought' did, followed a muck truck and thought it were a wedding".

I used to think LOL was lots of love too. I thought that was really nice. Went right off it when I found out what it really meant and no I have never used it.

I have no idea what FHB is either ?

I used FHB today and the recipient didn't know what I meant.

I use lol to let people know that I really did laugh out loud
As aposed to finding something slightly amusing.

Reminds me of the lady who sent texts out to relatives telling them of the date and time change of another relatives funeral, signed of with LOL, she thought it meant lots of love............

I dislike them all, takes ages to work out what they mean, and often fail.

I LOL quite a lot, especially at some of the memes on Facebook. Easily amused I know.

We use 'haha' - apparently it's more acceptable nowadays.

But DH once said something was double LOL and we now have to use that for something extremely funny - in a post ironic way of course!!
