I, too, have talked to Americans who love the Royal Family. I had a heated discussion with one at a dinner I attended when I dared to suggest a hereditary monarchy was so last century. He went on about our monarchy and how they were highly regarded throughout the world. I pointed out that what he meant was that Elizabeth II was highly regarded. I suggested that perhaps the Americans might like to take them over and fund their lifestyle, an offer he speedily declined.
I hope they have a good day for the wedding but they should fund it themselves - all of it.

Not as "nasty" as excessive displays of inherited wealth by our self-appointed betters funded by money which is desperately needed elsewhere.

I can still sleep at night annie although I am not sure how the ugly sisters or their odious parents can.

They are probably very spoilt women, but I think it unfair to criticise them because they seem to do nothing except holiday. They are not included in the list of working Windsors, we spoke of one having a job and this brought mocking about how easy it was for her. When Kate left university she had a job but was hounded by the press, she then worked with her parents and was critcised for this. When she had her babies her mother stayed with her, this was critcised , the mother was taking over the house.

These two sisters have grown up with constant criticism of their parents, they are critcised over their hats . They have no doubt reached a time when they think - damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

I think the carriage ride and inviting public into the grounds of Windsor is wrong, I think the constant comparing with Zara is wrong too, the three have privalaged life styles , their titles or lack of titles is the choice of their parents .

To wish rain on someone’s wedding day is nasty.

I'm a keen royalist, but even I don't think she should be allowed a carriage procession, Eugenie and Beatrice are probably the least popular royals. As far as I'm aware have done nothing useful in their entire lives and turned up at Katherine's wedding looking like something out of a comic opera.
Eugenie might be somewhat disappointed at the size of the crowd.

YANBU at all. Andrew's blustering about "princesses of the blood" (as if anyone in the last 3 centuries gave a tinker's cuss about that) shows what a blundering, arcane old duffer he is. I hope it rains and Fergie does something embarrassing - which is quite likely.

Yes, the photographs and articles can and are published without consent. Some celebs try to control what is printed by co operating in some articles and photo shoots.

They don’t “work” in the real sense of the word though Annie. They might put their name and station to something or other but that is not work. Willie is praised for all his work in the air ambulance service having worked part time for them for 2 years ! The way people go on about him you would think he had retired after 40 years continuous service .

So if a windsor works they got the job because of their name, if a Windsor doesn’t work they are a scrounger, can’t win can they

I believe they both have "jobs" but bearing in mind there are graduates with better degrees and the amount of holiday time they appear to have I'm guessing they are "employed" for who they are and not their abilities.

However I don't hope "it rains buckets" on the day. I just hope she changes her mind about the carriage ride.

Yes, that's why its pretty galling to think tax payers might be funding some of the costs of this wedding.
Still, it remains to be seen.
Maybe they will give a thought to how appropriate it is.

I doubt she will be MissA as she won’t be on “job seekers” . The very handsome “benefits” the royals get seem to work very differently and have no bearing on contributions paid, ability to work, income from other sources etc.

Hope she is being hounded by the job centre, then.

I'm not sure about Beatrice, perhaps she is 'between jobs'.

I believe Prince Andrew is worth about £65million..so I do not feel too sorry for him or his family really, He could have chosen to have a low profile, enjoying life and doing 'good' works and setting a good example to his daughters. He chose not to!

I happened to be at the GP surgery today.. several of the magazines there seemed to feature these young women! I resume they do not need to be interviewed and the articles & pictures cannot be published without consent. I d think if you seek publicity you have to be prepared to take the flack. They could go to work if they chose to.

It must be galling though that Prince Edward will become Duke of Edinburgh when Prince Phillip dies, his children will go up a notch and his wife is popular and undertakes royal duties.

Andrew might have been the Queen's favourite when they were growing up but he didn't half draw the short straw in life's choices.

Andrews children are not considered for official royal duties, Charles even stopped them having royal protection so their father has to employ bodyguards .

The royal family has brought at least one tourist to Scotland. My daughter was talking today to a visitor from Slovakia who made a trip out to Crathie yesterday, hoping to see the queen.

There was space available in the church and this visitor was thrilled to have spent an hour in close proximity to the queen & Prince Philip, Charles & Camilla, Prince Edward and his family and the Tindalls.

I have to say, having spent quite a bit of time in the US over the years, I've often received comments about how Americans love the royal family. Probably even more so at the moment, given the present incumbent in the White House!

That's not to say I don't favour a slimmed-down RF, though I think they've recognised that themselves. I sincerely hope the public doesn't end up paying for this proposed carriage ride.

I really don't care about the wedding. However, for two young women with apparently plenty of cash to splash the York girls do seem to have poor style and PR advice which makes them targets for the media and public to comment on. They appear to actively seek media attention and not shy away from it..that being the case if they attract negative comments they would not be surprised nor naïve enough not to expect it. The royal family have a huge amount of personal wealth. If they want fancy schmancy weddings, which are private not public, they need to fund them too. Including any security.

The difference is that Harry, and now Meghan, actually carry out numerous public duties. Andrew's lot do sod all except spend more time on holiday than they do at their "jobs" and "support" assorted charities by going to lots of parties. I fervently hope it rains buckets on the wedding day and nobody turns out to watch the nonentity and her chinless wonder parade around Windsor.
