I dislike the new trend for Newsreaders using the term Your instead of The, ie

‘ Now it’s time for your weather, your local news etc’

What happened to The weather, The local news,
The topic , etc
Why does it even bother me ? Perhaps I should ‘Own it’
Am I the ‘only one’ ?

I don't watch the news anymore as anything important comes up on my phone and I can see what the weather is doing when I look out of the window grin

grandMattie Thu 30-Aug-18 09:29:47

"Own it"!

Bathbelle Thu 30-Aug-18 09:23:32

I hate it when the newsreader says ‘it’s good night from me’ as I always have to say ‘and it’s goodnight from him’ a la Two Ronnies.

OldMeg Wed 29-Aug-18 14:52:01

Or at least no polite answer!

OldMeg Wed 29-Aug-18 14:50:09

Well there’s no answer to that ???

Bridgeit Wed 29-Aug-18 14:42:05

We have it’s callec Gransnet!

OldMeg Wed 29-Aug-18 14:35:20

Couldn’t care less! I think some people don’t have enough to worry about if little things like this irritate them.

Get a life!

NanKate Wed 29-Aug-18 14:25:15

Bloomin predictive text, irritates not images ?

NanKate Wed 29-Aug-18 14:23:52

There is a light hearted call in programme on local radio. The presenter often says at the end of the call ‘speak to you later’ when he as no intention of doing this. It really images me.

Day6 Wed 29-Aug-18 14:00:04

OH! I mean programme not 'show'! I keep hearing people on TV referring to shows. Worrying that it's wormed its way in to my writing!! shock

Day6 Wed 29-Aug-18 13:56:06

Watch any show about buying houses, either at home or abroad, and the presenter always says "And here is your patio, here is your master bedroom," etc.

And when did we start calling the biggest bedroom the master bedroom? Another Americanism. I have heard estate agents call the en-suite the "master bathroom". Ugh! I do get cross, and yes, it's pedantry, but people will keep getting it wrong unless we point it out. wink

PECS Wed 29-Aug-18 13:47:22

It will be some pseudo mumbo jumbo psychology about making it feel personal /brand loyalty etc etc. It is annoying!

Jane10 Wed 29-Aug-18 13:21:20

Well its better than the constant 'for me' about any request for action.

sodapop Wed 29-Aug-18 13:09:03

We all have our idiosyncrasies Anniebach for some of us its pedantry. Others don't care about that. Different strokes for different folks.

pensionpat Wed 29-Aug-18 12:05:40

I have a weather app on my phone which should state my address at the top of the screen. But sometimes the address is my neighbours, or even the next road. My weather? I don't think so!

Bluegal Wed 29-Aug-18 10:49:28

They used to say "here is the news, wherever you are". I think they must think its more intimate saying "here is YOUR news" like we may feel they are just talking to us alone? ha ha ha... Either way it doesn't really bother me a jot....I just want to find out what the weather could be like in my area and even then, they get it wrong smile

Anniebach Wed 29-Aug-18 10:09:12

Why does the use of words never bother me, with the exception of certain swear words ,

KatyK Wed 29-Aug-18 09:48:41

When M&S first started using 'your', I thought it was brilliant. After all if it was mine, I could help myself. Surely I wouldn't have to pay for what was mine? smile

Grammaretto Wed 29-Aug-18 09:40:20

I think It's time to graduate to Pedant's Corner!
I heard a BBC reporter honing in on something today rather than homing in.
It bothered me enough that I googled the 2 words and to my surprise, its now common usage for both to be ok.
Maybe it's my weather after all!

yggdrasil Wed 29-Aug-18 09:30:09

I usually hear "And now here is the news where you are" from both BBC and ITV

Bridgeit Wed 29-Aug-18 09:20:45

I hope it annoys you too Annibach. In the nicest possible way of course?

Anniebach Wed 29-Aug-18 09:18:37

I hadn’t noticed the change Bridgeit, now I will be listening for it ?
