To be shocked by Jeremy Kyle

My DH is addicted to Jeremy Kyle. I have asked him why this is and he just says it is because he cannot believe such people exist. The whole programme upsets me as I feel he is a nasty piece of work taking advantage of people less fortunate than ourselves and unable to help themselves. I have to go and sit in another room and even then I can still hear it.

What difference the people on this vile programme to Diana going on Panorama to talk about her sex life and her marriage

MawBroon Wed 28-Nov-18 12:27:05

Two words ladies - off button. (Press)

Jeremy Kyle is making a fortune make no mistake. He apparently thinks so much of his programme that he refuses to allow his children to watch it. Speaks for itself doesn't it? Gutter tv.

I don’t normally watch it, but a friend told me that she was appearing on it. It was a DNA test to see if she had found her birth family. It was so touching. I cried.

Anniebach I am sorry it was an unfortunate turn of phrase and no in no way did I ever felt superior. My grandad was an engine driver in the steel works as was my uncle. I mentioned miners as I was brought up in a mining village and loved the people there. I had far more in common with the people there than the Mrs Buckets of this world. And god forbid anyone should ever curtsey to me - I am superior to no-one. I admire the grafters of this world that is why the people on JK anger me for their lethargy.

I used to watch the Jerry Springer show, which had similar scenes to those in the JK show. He's coming back as a judge!

@gillybob oh dear you would hate the way I pronounce Newcastle. Glad I haven't been to any north east meet ups. Does it really matter? DH has a fiend who is a miners son and says he has come from a working class background.but he is possibly one of the cleverest people we know- world class elite in his specialist subject with world wide respect and demand for his advice.i wish people weren't so touchy.

Stansgran Wed 28-Nov-18 12:32:34

Fiend= friend obviously ?

GabriellaG Wed 28-Nov-18 12:34:09

All this talk of class.
There will always be a class system, whether perceived or actual.
It's been operating for as long as humans (and animals) have walked this earth and will always exist in one form or another. To disagree, is to wear blinkers or bury one's head in the sand.
Before anyone gets their back up, this is my opinion.

Anniebach Wed 28-Nov-18 12:35:18

Isn’t it great we have miners children to make some feel superior

sarahellenwhitney Wed 28-Nov-18 12:44:20

Now back on planet earth and recall a Hospital Emergency Series on TV with Jeremy Kyle.
I watched out of ' morbid ' curiosity and could not believe how patients allowed this guy to be present while their personal problems were being discussed/examined.

GabriellaG Wed 28-Nov-18 12:44:28

A world where everyone was on a level playing field at the start of their lives, none of whom were leaders (as that puts them a step ahead of followers) none of whom earned more than the others, none had more talent or better brains and none grasped opportunities that others did not, would make the world a very boring place.
There is a place for every cog but some cogs are more central to the working of the world than others.

BBbevan Wed 28-Nov-18 12:45:03

Anniebach both my grandfathers were miners. I feel very proud of that and never feel inferior to anyone.

gillybob Wed 28-Nov-18 12:51:36

Oh Stansgran if you read the thread you will see it was meant as a joke ( hence the grin after every comment) . I couldn’t care less how anyone pronounces anything it’s the person behind the accent that counts every time !

There is still no “arse” in Newcastle though grin

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 12:51:50

BBbevan well said!!

Jane43 Wed 28-Nov-18 12:52:37

I watched part of it once but couldn’t understand much of what was being said because there was so much shouting and sweating. I’m sure your DH will soon get fed up with watching it but in the meantime can’t you occupy yourself with something else or go out of the house for a walk or shopping if it r rally bothers you that much?

I went with DGD to the Universityof Surrey when she was deciding which university to go to. Apparently Jeremy Kyle is an alumni and the lecturerswe came in contact with made a point of mentioning this. I would have kept this quiet but I suppose it is a reflection of society and what we aspire to.

GabriellaG Wed 28-Nov-18 12:53:45

Anyone who allows themselves to feel slighted over a remark about miners children v anyone calling themselves middle class, may want to think about said comment having struck a sensitive nerve.
It's nobody's business how you perceive yourself. You can think of yourself as Royalty or rubbish and it's all ridiculous.
If you have a sense of self worth, you don't need anyone to shore up your confidence as to your place in society by agreeing that toffs and tinkers are all equal. They're not, but if it pleases people to think so...grin

Jane43 Wed 28-Nov-18 12:55:29

Should be ‘swearing’ not ‘sweating’ in the first paragraph and really’ in the second paragraph not ‘r rally’. My proof reading skills are declining.

Anniebach Wed 28-Nov-18 12:56:46

BB, I have never felt inferior and never had cause to feel inferior being a coal miners daughter , I have never thought anyone inferior or superior to me regardless of their occupation or lifestyle

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:00:33

Jane43 I liked sweating better wink

oldbatty Wed 28-Nov-18 13:06:39

I think I see what you were trying to say dragonfly. I came from a home that believe me was in a class of its own! A sort of dysfunctional hybrid of madness.
I remember playing with kids on farms and my best friend was I suppose ,working class. There were such love in that house and such acceptance in a haphazard way.

Now I find people with the least are often the kindest and most accepting.

mabon1 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:14:31

Well don't watch it and if this is your only problem then lucky old you thank your lucky stars.

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:19:11

mabon1 was that really necessary. I am at present awaiting the results of a biopsy so no this is not my only problem!! I was just interested to see what people felt about JK

dragonfly46 Wed 28-Nov-18 13:20:12

oldbatty got it in one!!

gillybob Wed 28-Nov-18 13:23:18

Don’t let her get to you dragonfly . I happen to think it’s a great thread . I love to read other people’s opinions on all sorts .
