Dogs in cafes

It's just occurred to me that we all press that flush button before we wash our hands. So those who don't hand wash in public toilets are carrying not only their own germs but those of others.

At home too, we risk re-infecting if we don't wash the button each time.

It's a wonder we're not all dead of the lurgy.

Witzend as a matter of fact I read those very statistics a couple of weeks ago.

Of course I'm not quite sure how many dogs see to their hygiene after toiletting.

And how many ladies do not wash their hands after using the lavatory Witzend

What is the best breed to share a bed with? The long legged ones do take up a lot of space.

They're certainly allowed in France, Grandtante, and long may it last.
As for lobbying MPs to ban them here, I'd like to think they have far more important things to legislate about.

I've been to so many pubs and cafes that allow dogs, and never once have I seen one making a nuisance of itself. I don't know why people make such an almighty fuss about 'hygiene' - it's not as if the dogs are ever allowed in the kitchen.
And on the matter of hygiene, has anyone apart from me ever wondered how many of the men coming out of loos in pubs or cafes, have washed their hands after pointing pink percy at the porcelain?

Absolutely not!!!! If you don't like dogs in a cafe, go somewhere else: as an earlier poster said, places which allow dogs inside are a minority.

I don't have a dog myself and always choose to go if possible to a llocal cafe which permits dogs, as it gives me a chance to interact with them.

Dogs are not allowed on any premises that sells or serves food in Denmark, and I believe the same laws apply in most European countries, so you might want to start lobbying your MPs to bring in similar legislation.

Slightly off subject, dogs can really make the day for some people. We went to visit my husband's elderly aunt a couple of weeks ago, a few months off 100, mentally alert but physically incapacitated and in a home now for the elderly. She told us that dogs were regularly brought in to interact with residents, she loved those days, they were a real high for her having owned a dog for a long time, his picture was there among various grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anyway apologies for wandering off topic, I do see both points of view.

I can't understand this thing of never being able to go anywhere without their dog - I have even seen dogs taken to some noisy motorsports!
Personally, I think dogs should only go in cafe's if there is a notice on the door saying they are welcome - so I can avoid that one ! I like dogs, but the thought of paying to have some stranger's hairy hound sit and watch me eat and drink puts me right off !

I do really like dogs, well most of them, I'm not sure an eating establishment is the right place for them, some customers won't like or expect dogs to be in such a place. Having said that I have been in cafes with the occasional dog and they were always well behaved, It didn't bother me personally, in fact the last time I had that experience the dog in the cafe, some sort of Labradoodle, was so lovely I couldn't take my eyes off him/her. We also have a pub nearby, at one of the entrances to Bushy Park, currently being refurbished, that was a real doggy haven, I quite liked that and the atmosphere created by the dogs and their owners, dogs can open conversations between owners and observers, like myself.

Grammaretta what country do you live in that Rottweiler’s are illegal?

Sodapop it isn’t up to you to decide if a dog may or may not be allowed in a cafe or restaurant. It is the decision of the owners of that establishment.

Fennel you hardly qualify as a responsible dog owner if your dogs were allowed to be aggressive towards children and other dogs. Sounds like this ran in your family if your parents had terriers who ‘loved a fight’.

In our local pubs dogs are in the large bars where you can eat but the restaurant is dog free. I think that’s a good balance really

Brattish children with overindulgent parents

At the end of the day most catering establishments do not allow dogs. Those that do are obviously catering for a market.

Yes I think that’s the issue. We have a Yorkie so easy to pick up and control

We had neither of them as puppies, so perhaps that's part of it. And we were very rural - at one time we even had a neighbour's sheep in our field and our dogs were in their element.
We've been to a country park this pm and most people brought a dog. Almost all the dogs were small breeds, more suited for town living. And well behaved, on leads.
