I think she is, she is so passionate , knowledgeable & informed.
If this isn’t shown or taught in all schools yet , let’s hope that it will be
She is certainly an inspiring example for & to us all.
Well done young lady .

Yes. I must admit I worry a bit about that, but the group our kids go to all seem to be harmless, middle-aged, wouldn't say boo-to-a-goose types. They don't go the pub after the meetings. They go for coffee and cake. grin

As GT is Autistic and Aspergers (not sure if I can use this word) then she will have an obsessive interest in what she cares about. I think that is one of the indications of Autism.

I did find some of her expressions troubling, in that she looks on the edge and I have no idea who is taking care of her mental health.
But it is important to her and her message is very appropriate. I have no idea if it scaring young people. Certainly not any of my five DGC.

Rebellious so would you be prepared to sacrifice a young girls mental health in order to continue to promote a message which is already out there and being promoted by others?

I find when listening to her I am becoming more concerned for her than her message.

gillybob Thu 26-Sept-19 14:37:13

I’m a bit worried that the XR might turn into something quite nasty so prefer that they don’t . smile

gillybob Thu 26-Sept-19 14:36:21

Are you even allowed to say “what you really meant” on Gransnet anymore ? Are you not supposed to apologise and thrash yourself with thorny bramble for getting it wrong first time? grin

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:33:54

I really meant it's a pity they don't belong to XR IMO. All kids should.

Rebellious Thu 26-Sept-19 14:33:30

Her message will be more *important *than her mental health if there is no world for her to grow up in.

gillybob Thu 26-Sept-19 14:32:13

Why the heck would they Gonegirl ? they’re children . They rarely fly themselves but why would they want to spoil someone else’s fun? Put a dampener on another child’s happiness?

Im sorry but I just don’t get it ?

Boosgran Thu 26-Sept-19 14:29:30

Hear hear Day6

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:29:25

That mashed up post was in answer to gillybob

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:28:36

they don’t stand up in front of the world condemning air flights .^

Day6 Thu 26-Sept-19 14:27:35

Is the message, which is already being spread by many others, more important that a young girls mental health

I agree Oldwoman70

Her earnest, unsmiling, cross appearances - (she is how old??) are becoming the concern, rather than her message - one which we all know.

If I use the term 'freak show' I'll likely get jumped on, but do remember it wasn't so long ago that people would pay to peer with curiosity, sometimes amusement, and often in horror at people who were 'different' or seemed strange to them. We have, thankfully, moved on from that, but let's just say Greta is now 'the unusual'.

It's not just GN posters who are commenting on her autistic delivery. Go and look at social media before you accuse people of being cruel or insensitive. The message IS important, but she has done her bit. It's out there. Her parents ought to realise that and protect her.

Timing is everything. Take her off the world stage now, before she, rather than the message, is the topic of conversation.

Knowing when to go, when you have peaked, is important.
and especially so if the person is young, has mental health concerns and is vulnerable.

Rebellious Thu 26-Sept-19 14:25:53

There is something every individual can do to preserve the environment. However the onus remains on governments and large companies to ensure that measures are being put in place, trees are preserved, fossil fuels are left in the ground and reusable energy is rolled out. Greta is not attacking the individual, so perhaps all should feel a little less defensive because they drove a 5 minute journey or threw a recyclable in the bin.

gillybob Thu 26-Sept-19 14:23:22

It’s fine really you know . Apparently all you have to do is plant a few trees and your conscience is clear .

gillybob Thu 26-Sept-19 14:22:01

more’s the pity

what? confused

That they aren’t hypocrites ? Or they don’t condemn air flights?

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:19:15

More's the pity.

No one expects air travel to stop. Of course people will always want to go on holiday, visit family in far flung places. It's the unnecessary flying by the wealthy celeb types, and the businessmen who could use video conferencing, that needs to be curtailed.

gillybob Thu 26-Sept-19 14:15:26

Oh here go again . I don’t give a monkeys toot what anyone else does with their money . Whether they fly , cruise or swim. It doesn’t bother me one little jot . What I don’t like much is hypocrisy where someone preaches to everyone else what they should do and then they themselves do the exact opposite . Not pointing fingers at anyone or trying to cause an argument .

If TC hadn’t gone bust this week my 3 GC would’ve flown (short-haul) in the October half term but that is now not to be . It would have been their first proper holiday for several years. The difference is though they don’t stand up in front of the world condemning air flights .

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:11:15

this not his

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:10:59

I don't think I can contribute anymore to his thread. That extra dot in the thread title is really getting to me. ?

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:02:03

For God's sake get real with this.

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 14:00:28

I apologise in advance that we could do that and you can't.

No! I don't apologise actually.

Gonegirl Thu 26-Sept-19 13:59:11

I've only just noticed this gillybob.

So his CF is how much bigger than my 3 DGC put together ? You know the ones you condemn? You made him go ? What a joke ! Did you drag him onto the plane kicking and screaming against his will ?

No, but I bloody paid half the money for him to go! One thousand five flipping hundred! You think I would let that be wasted? Quite apart from wasting the great opportunity.

Bridgeit Thu 26-Sept-19 13:58:03

Good point Oldwoman,
She is who she is , so what may seem unusual to us is not necessarily so to those who think the way they do.
Or to her family they surely know her well enough to protect her if necessary much as we all do our own

merlotgran Thu 26-Sept-19 13:57:22

I wonder if GT will reply to Prince Harry who is still making hypocritical comments while praising hers.

Oldwoman70 Thu 26-Sept-19 13:53:40

Like many who have commented - I don't doubt she is sincere in her beliefs but I am also concerned for her. Yes, the message is important but who are the people behind her, pushing her forward.

I understand a psychologist who has watched her has said he thinks she is in need of help and therapy - are her parents helping get that help? Is the message, which is already being spread by many others, more important that a young girls mental health.
