Lemongrove is spot on.
It`s amazing how many years goby then out of the blue a female comes out with something that just can`t be proven.
Unless your Monica Lewinsky that is.

Ok Jane10, I accept your point, we do all know what he's like. You're right, it doesn't excuse him and I'm not surprised that people get "worked up" about it.

We all make choices in our lives and it seems to me that Mr Johnson's choices inevitably mean he gets what ever it is he desires at that moment, with little regard for the long term consequences. That's what I feel worked up about. He is entertaining, clever and often very funny. That doesn't mean he's PM material sadly imo.

Jane10 Wed 02-Oct-19 20:09:56

Iam64 the point is that we all know what he's like. That's not excusing him I'm just surprised that it seems to come as sufficient if a surprise to get so many people all worked up about it.
Just get the deal through and let us all get on with sorting out the resultant issues.

Eloethan Wed 02-Oct-19 20:01:36

No,it's not OK in my book Iam64 but I think the point being made is most people are aware by now that Johnson is a loose cannon - unfortunately some people admire that quality.

What grandad and I were trying to say is that there is much more recent evidence that this man behaves impulsively and without proper thought and that he is racist, sexist and lacking good judgment. This 20-year old story is an unnecessary distraction from the much more important issue of possible corrupt practices and misuse of public funds.

Iam64 Wed 02-Oct-19 19:42:02

Jane10 - oh that's ok then. We have a PM with "a reputation" that means he can behave badly, be an unreliable husband, father and a liar in public office but hey, it's just Boris so that's ok.
Not.

Jane10 Wed 02-Oct-19 18:00:19

We all know Boris's reputation. It's non news!

Grandad1943 Tue 01-Oct-19 21:58:58

Eloethan, I think you may have a point in your above post. I certainly had not considered the groping allegations could be a deliberate diversion tactic from the much more serious Jennifer Arcuri Revelations.

There seem to be so many scandals surrounding our Right Honourable Prime Minister that many of us are having difficulty keeping up with the continuous stream of revelations coming out by the day.

Eloethan Tue 01-Oct-19 19:48:12

Grandad1943 I agree with you that the Arcuri revelations are far more recent and important than this "groping" allegation, which actually risks detracting the public's attention away from the latter much more serious matter. Perhaps that was the intention.

Grandad1943 Tue 01-Oct-19 19:19:47

Things seem to get worse by the hour for our Right Honerable Prime Minister in the Jennifer Arcuri Revelations.

Being reported by the Guardian:-
A Whitehall official who ran the scheme that granted Jennifer Arcuri a coveted entrepreneur visa had worked for Boris Johnson when he was mayor, the Guardian has learned.

The US businesswoman, who is at the centre of a conflict of interest row over her friendship with the prime minister, beat nearly 2,000 applicants to gain one of 200 sought-after tier 1 entrepreneur visas on the government’s Sirius programme after Johnson helped promote her firm, Innotech, by giving keynote speeches at her events.

High promotion indeed for someone who was a part-time pole dancer at that time. ?

Well, like anyone else, I do not whether the "grab on the thigh" statement is true or not.

However, the allegations of Jennifer Arcuri receiving taxpayer funding for her business while she was involved in "a relationship" with Boris Johson grow by the day.

Johnson failed to deny several times that he had a relationship with Acuri while giving an interview with Sky News today.

With ever more information coming forward in regards to Johnson's actions in this matter, I feel this may well prove to be the issue that puts him in "the slammer."

I very much feel that if these allegations prove to be true then the above would be very much deserved.

I think Boris Johnson is a most unpleasant man and not fit to be prime minister. There are enough verifiable accounts of his boorish behaviour without the need to rake up stories from 20 or so years ago. Whether this woman's account is true or not, only she will know, but her decision to talk about it now was guaranteed to draw criticism, and one wonders what the motivation for this superfluous revelation was.

As for the story about Corbyn:

1 - who is the courageous "witness"?

2 - motivation, i.e. "showing off", is ascribed to this incident but that is just an assumption and speaks more of the "witness" than Corbyn.

3 - The quote from the witness about this alleged event was:

"It was [the] late ’70s, it was still a point of interest, a white man with a black woman, so he was slightly showing off: ‘I’ve got a new girlfriend, and she’s black’.”

Whoever this so-called witness to this alleged incident is, this remark demonstrates his racism. Incidentally, inter-race relationships were not uncommon in the 70's in the areas of south-east of England where I lived - apart from myself, I knew many people in such relationships. In London, it was even more commonplace. Again, the comment tells us volumes about the person who made it.

The timing of this allegation rather gives the game away doesn’t it?

Come on - 20 years ago?

She obviously waited til she thought the timing was right.

I think most sensible people can see through this woman’s motives.

ClareAB Tue 01-Oct-19 16:05:35

I do wish people would stop assuming that 'all people' want Boris as PM and want him to deliver 'Brexit' at any cost.
Many people do not want either of those things.... Speak for yourself by all means, but do not speak for me.

trisher Tue 01-Oct-19 15:55:44

The difference is there hasn't been a complaint about Corbyn. Mind you as I said Boris could shag who the hell he likes if only he was an honest, hard working, efficient PM. As it is he's lousy, untrustworthy, lazy and boorish.

lemongrove Tue 01-Oct-19 15:50:30

It’s a long time ago mind you.

lemongrove Tue 01-Oct-19 15:48:44

trisher.... well ‘e would say that wouldn’t ‘e? wink

Anniebach Tue 01-Oct-19 15:48:13

Naturally he denied it just as Johnson is denying now

lemongrove Tue 01-Oct-19 15:47:25

I just read that Annie it seems he was rather proud of his
‘Right on’ credentials.grin

trisher Tue 01-Oct-19 15:46:40

Mm as regards Corbyn an unattributed story from an unnamed source. Still I liked Corbyn's comments on the book
Jeremy Corbyn told his local newspaper, the Islington Tribune that "I’ve seen the book. It’s riddled with inaccuracies. I found 14 in the first eight pages I read. Dates, places, names, people, all things that could have been checked if the research had been done properly". He noted that "I think it generally lacks an analysis of the politics of Britain at the time. It’s a disappointing book. She had no approval from me, for the writing of it or approaching people to undertake interviews". Corbyn also suggested Prince had been impolite in the way she dealt with Corbyn and his family, stating "I’m pleased she notes my politeness. I wish she had shown the same politeness to me. She might care to adopt that characteristic herself"

lemongrove Tue 01-Oct-19 15:43:04

There can be no investigation into this story of thigh touching twenty years ago, it’s a he said /she said thing.

I really think it demeans the serious cases that went on/ are happening now to women when we get caught up with this sort of thing, a hand on the knee/ thigh at a boozy lunch party a long time ago.

Anniebach Tue 01-Oct-19 15:35:40

My error, not photographs of Diana Abbott but Diane Abbott
in his bed. Read it several years ago.

'So we can believe Corbyn took photographs of Diana Abbott
naked and showed them to friends because it was reported'

Which journalist reported this - did someone actually put their name to an article in a British newspaper?

PernillaVanilla Tue 01-Oct-19 14:58:02

I suppose it is just another "Inverted Pyramid of Piffle". I might be more ready to accept his explanation if this was the first time but

"Tory MP Boris Johnson has expressed his regret at being sacked as shadow arts minister amid allegations about his private life.
A spokesman for party leader Michael Howard said he was removed for lying about claims of an affair.

Mr Johnson, a married father-of-four who edits the Spectator, has also been dismissed as party vice-chairman.

He is quoted as expressing his sorrow at the decision, which he said was made in response to tabloid stories.

'Personal integrity'

Mr Johnson last week dismissed claims in a Sunday newspaper that he had an affair with Spectator columnist Petronella Wyatt.

Profile: Boris Johnson
Analysis: Fate was sealed
He told The Mail on Sunday: "I am very sorry this decision has been taken in response to tabloid stories about my private life."

And the Sunday Telegraph quoted him as saying: "It is a wretched and lamentable day when people's private lives become used in political machinations."

Yes, Boris, we have heard it all before.

'So we can believe Corbyn took photographs of Diana Abbott

Now that truly is a terrible thing.
