I guess I just see these two as damaged young people - both with traumatic upbringings - I think the mentioning of mental health problems is part of he and his brother's attempt to lobby for this to be less of a matter for shame; and for people to be able to be open about this. I applaud this.

I am not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but the constant nit-picking of every aspect of their lives is quite simply unkind I feel. And possibly quite dangerous and damaging.

Money cannot buy mental health sadly.

Luckygirl, The questions were discussed between Tom Bradby and Prince Harry in advance of the tour. Harry agreed to whatever he was asked.

Surely it would have been sensible to play down any references to his mental health and their problems with the media given they were supposed to be there to visit charities set up to support people suffering real hardship?

Tom Brabdy has been a friend of Hsrry’s for som years, no way would he have asked those questions without their approval , it was so set up .

I think Harry does have mental health problems - what makes you think he does not? - the fact that he has money?!

But Harry doesn’t have mental health problems! Yes he may still be grieving for his mother but grief is not a mental illness.

In any case their official tour was absolutely NOT the place or time to complain about his own life. It ended up being all about them which was not the point of the tour of course.

I can’t imagine what the Queen thought of their outbursts.

Harry is pursuing one of his causes by being open about his mental health problems - that IS one of his causes - to get this pot into the open and not for it to be something to be ashamed of. So when he talks in that personal way, it is not random - journalists ask him about this precisely because it is one of his good causes - and good for him!

For too long people with depression or other mental health problems have felt that they they had to try and hide these from their families and places of work.

Yes listen and learn. That’s what she should have been doing then these pathetic ‘poor me’ wails just wouldn’t have happened.

There is such a stark contrast with her behaviour and that of the Duchess of Cambridge on their respective tours.

Very good advice indeed from Michelle Obama, what a pity it wasn’t heeded! I’m not sure Meghan listens to any advice, apparently some of her advisers have left, and they had worked for the royal family for a long time as I understand it. Also she has now engaged three different teams to advise her, apparently she wants to improve her image. One of the PR teams is American, a well known company but I’ve forgotten the name. Apparently they do the PR for a lot of American superstars. If this is true, it won’t help. Americans don’t tend to understand the culture around the royal family, so won’t be able to advise appropriately. It’s a different ball game than American celebrities.
Whatever, it’s sad to see Harry looking so unhappy. The first year of marriage is supposed to be a lovely time.

Apparently , Michelle Obama advised Meghan to do nothing for the first year of her marriage but to listen. I think that was very good advice which was sadly ignored.

Perhaps Megan is giving him psychotherapy, she did criticise
the British ‘stiff upper lip’.

I know Meghan wants to continue with some of the charities she supported before her marriage but nearly all her public appearances seem to be about her and not the charity.

The edition of Vogue she edited was never going to endear her to the British public when she didn't include the Queen which would have been a touching gesture and half the time I don't know what Meghan's going on about.

When Harry did solo engagements before his marriage, nobody was in any doubt about his motives and support. he covered a wide range of charities and made sure the focus was on them. He could even mention his mother (if appropriate) without emotion.

It's obvious where the change in him has come from.

Annie, quite right, Prince Charles has taken a lot of criticism over the years. Given what he has put up with, Harry has little to complain about. But I don’t think he’d be complaining if it wasn’t for Meghan. Meghan is the problem, not Harry. I honestly thought it would be a happy ending when he met her, but how wrong was I!

I don’t hate Megan, she certaintly irritates me . The royal family have faults as do all families, but they are where they are by the will of the people.

I am not a flag waving royalist, have never stood on a pavement to watch them drive or walk by. I have met Charles,
this was during the foot and mouth outbreak and when he was
in this area re employment for youngsters through the Princes
Trust, he is a nice man and gentle , and he cares deeply for this country , I mean the U.K. not just Wales

I totally understand that everyone has an opinion on the RF, MPs and others who are in the "public eye" whether by choice, their occupation or by circumstances entirely beyond their control.

I agree with you Annie, the trip to SA was carried out in the name of the queen and should have been treated with dignity. Unfortunately the interview at the end was not remotely dignified, it unfortunately made the whole thing to be about them, Harry and Meghan, rather than about the worthwhile causes in SA.
Maybe it would help Harry if instead of concentrating on how much a victim Diana was, and therefore, by default, how much a victim he is, if he started to concentrate on something more worthwhile such as a campaign to encourage people to follow the law and actually wear their seatbelts, or a campaign to persuade people not to drive if they are drunk.Diana died because she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, and because her driver was drunk. Yes, they were being pursued by the press, that didn’t help, but essentially not wearing a seatbelt and a drunk driver killed her.

Then it was such a waste of the exposure she could have given to those causes in S.A. Not telling the world she was warned not to marry Harry and how few asked her if she was ok.

I think that Meghan wants to continue with some of the charities and causes which she supported before she married into the RF as well as those which may be chosen for her.
Those included education for girls and women and empowering women and promoting gender equality in communities where they do not have the advantages which we may enjoy.

Royal persons should be professionals who don't discuss personal feelings in public. Many people look to royal persons to symbolise the nation and this is the job they are paid to do.

True, it's difficult to maintain the mystique with gutter press trying to spy all the time. Diana got away with her publicity seeking. The others lack Diana's talent.

A good way forward would be for them (William and Kate as well) to stop 'retracing Diana's steps' and undertake some functions that can put a new slant on their lives. Stirring up terribly sad memories in the glare of the spotlight can't be good for any of them.

Meghan is becoming a 'one trick pony' with her 'woke' causes and constant references to empowerment and I see her attention seeking friend, Jameela Jamil is sticking her oar in again.

I'm looking forward to watching the documentary on Prince Charles and the Duchy of Cornwall tonight....Some good old traditional Royal Stuff for a change.
