I am feeling nostalgic. Help needed.

I was thinking about some lovely pastry in a cake with a pineapple top and or possibly jam. We had those when I was home.

I remember getting them at home when I was young they were lovely have no idea when I last had one.
Has anyone seen them in recent years.

Googled it.

Dick Emery in the blond wig. I bet you the PC Brigade would have complained big time if he appeared now. He was so funny.

I used to make them in a bakery many years ago in Cornwall. Baked pastry cases, a layer if pineapple jam, a swirl of synthetic cream, then runny pineapple flavoured yellow icing, fondant we called it and I think a cherry on top. I don’t remember actually eating one but they must have been very sweet and sickly!

M&S has them if anyone's interested. I bought a box of 4 to take to a friend. I found them very sweet indeed and really couldn't face a second one (which is saying something!!)

rosecarmel Tue 05-Nov-19 11:57:14

I've been craving pineapple ever since!

If your pineapple pie/cream/tart mission proves unsuccessful let me know and I’ll stick some in the post to you - it will give me an excuse to pay Greggs a visit! ?

I am going to ask my choir friend if she could see if they have them in her Iceland store and bring me some tonight when we go to choir tonight.
No stone will be unturned in my pineapple pie mission.wink ? ?

The shop, not Reykavik

Thank you Resurgam for my first giggle of the day!
?

So its good to know they might still be available. It appears that Iceland sell them .
I will not drive the 10 miles round trip to Iceland today.
The shop, not Reykavik.
It seems to be a popular in Scotland.

Thank you.

They are indeed super, sickly sweet. We can buy them as individual cakes or tarts, like in the blog.
There is a layer of pineapple jam between the pastry and the cream.
All the major supermarkets sell them here, as well as independent bakers.

Are they super sweet? I just rummaged thru the pantry looking for a can of pineapple! I also found this blog ..

Cherrytree59 Sun 03-Nov-19 21:16:57

Marydoll blast from the past.

My paternal grandmother always had some in for when we visited.
Unlike my maternal gran, who loved to bake, she wasn't a domestic goddess (a bit like myself), she would quite happily nip to the bakery for some pineapple tarts and strawberry tarts.

Unfortunately after a couple pineapple tarts and glass of ironbru (only usually allowed at grans) I would feel quite sick! envy

Long time since I have tasted one.

Love pineapple and raspberry creams ❤️ They often appear in our NHS tea breaks (because we practice what we preach, obviously!)

aggie Sun 03-Nov-19 20:53:43

My Aunt used to get me the pineapple ones in Glasgow as a treat , strawberry tarts too I seem to remember

BBbevan Sun 03-Nov-19 20:50:31

Lyons used to make a pineapple tart in a little cardboard box. Other flavours too. I had them for my school packed lunch in the 50s. Love the pineapple one best. Haven't seen then for decades.
