To feel the BBC should be impartial?

Yesterday, live footage from the Cenotaph showed our PM looking less than smart, stumbling around and presenting his wreath upside down, while H.M. Queen watched from a balcony.
Today, on BBC morning news, the 2019 Cenotaph ceremony was reported, showing a clip from 2106 of Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary, looking smart in a suit, and watched by H.M. Queen standing at street level.

I am horrified to know that the BBC is manipulating public opinion in this way. I thought the BBC is supposed to be fair and impartial. Clearly I was wrong. angry

Yes. "Corbin at the Cenotaph and lays a wreath" has changed to discussing Boris and Beeb. Confusing.

It must have been suggested on another thread that this may have happened on Cummings's instructions

confused
Are there two threads on this?

lemongrove Tue 12-Nov-19 17:49:22

Yes suziewoozie I do think it’s ok to comment on it.I have no need to actually see it as I take on board the many comments that the BBC have mixed up footage and showed some of Boris and JC at the cenotaph from another year.
The BBC have not denied it, have they?
It isn’t working in Boris Johnson’s favour is my point.

Pantglas2 Tue 12-Nov-19 17:43:17

Ah yes the ‘straw man argument’ as defence.....

Callistemon Tue 12-Nov-19 17:43:11

As this is not working in Boris's favour, it could be argued that it was Milne, not Cummings as suggested above, who ordered the old footage to be shown.

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 17:38:44

Can't see the point in all the bitchy laughing there. confused

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 17:37:15

I bet he wishes the Beeb had left well alone. Poor Boris. ?

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 17:36:21

But, like Lemongrove says, it's not working in Boris' favour. It's drawing a lot of attention to a couple of mistakes that would probably have been forgotten by now.

suziewoozie Tue 12-Nov-19 17:32:01

Lemon you haven’t seen the clip in question? And you think it’s ok to comment on it? ??????

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 17:04:26

It's not good enough just for them to be tweeting about it. Not everyone does twitter. If a newspaper gets things wrong they have to insert a small paragraph somewhere. The Beeb should have to say something. But they won't. Expect it's well and truly under the carpet now.

You do like your straw men arguments. If you read the OP nothing was said about bias. It is about honesty, whoever it affects. Perhaps those trying to derail the thread from that point are not too bothered about plain, common or garden honesty.

lemongrove Tue 12-Nov-19 16:53:16

I haven’t seen the clip in question, but it hardly seems to be working in Johnson’s favour.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 12-Nov-19 16:52:30

And my point is that they’ve always done it even in the eighties with Michael foot let alone recently! Not suggesting it’s right.

It may be your point but you don't seem to present any evidence, just gay abandon when it welcomes to the truth. That's not how I see things. I think there should be an enquiry into how and why it happened.

suziewoozie Tue 12-Nov-19 16:39:47

I think there’s a difference between a general discussion on the partiality or otherwise of the BBC and this specific example which is not a good look and has not been handled well at all imo. But maybe I’ve forgotten the last time the BBC made an editing mistake that worked in JC’s favour

lemongrove Tue 12-Nov-19 16:31:29

This subject crops up from time to time on GN.....usually accusing the Beeb of right wing bias, but sometimes t’other way round.I think they usually get it about right, and people just view it through the prism of their own party politics.

Rob Burley ( some BBC News Editor) has explained in great detail on Twitter this ‘mistake’. Apparently they were all tired/ young/inexperienced/overworked ( delete as appropriate) , That’s all you can expect isn’t it? I would guess they’ll be a bit more careful for the next week or two. What they should have done of course was to put the explanation out and an apology at the same times the next day as the misleading footage was aired accompanied by the correct footage. But that would never happen.

jura2 Tue 12-Nov-19 15:22:36

Do you not think we should know how this 'mistake' was made- and especially if it was an instructions from 'above' and if so, from whom?

SirChenjin Tue 12-Nov-19 15:08:14

Pah! even...

SirChenjin Tue 12-Nov-19 15:07:48

Typical English response- path! No, Scotland doesn’t want to be independent, according to all the opinion polls...although after the 12th December that could very well change, depending on the outcome! ????????

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 14:53:01

And anyway, doesn't Scotland want to be independent? Get yer own telly programmes. wink

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 14:51:18

It was on last week.

SirChenjin Tue 12-Nov-19 14:38:35

That’s very true Gonegirl - it was before I was even born but I’ve heard tell of such a programme...

Fiachna50 Tue 12-Nov-19 14:26:34

The BBC have never been impartial or unbiased. I no longer watch any news programmes. I go online or watch Euronews sometimes.

Gonegirl Tue 12-Nov-19 14:24:23

Well, they had that programme about the investiture of the Prince of Wales.

SirChenjin Tue 12-Nov-19 13:19:48

You're all wrong - the only bias in the BBC is its bias in favour of England and all things English. It's like the rest of us don't exist.

Seems we all have our views on the BBC!
